Dear Cimarron Parents,


Today at Cimarron, our entire student body came together to learn about, and celebrate the greatest vision of human freedom in history, the U.S. Constitution. Our eighth grade students lead us in the Preamble Challenge followed by all students joining in the Pledge of Allegiance. This opportunity gave our students a chance to consider the great freedoms that we all enjoy as US citizens. Other Cimarron happenings included supporting the Legend High School community with spirit week as our student council had a float in the parade, and our band students joined the Legend Marching Band. This is a busy time of year for Cimarron, and we look forward to building community through upcoming events such as our first Cimarron fun run. Check our website for details about the First Annual Colt Bolt on October 1.


We are looking forward to collaborating with all of you at parent teacher conferences next week. Please read below for details about this and many other exciting upcoming events!

Parent Teacher Conferences September 21st and 22nd

Dear Cimarron Parents,


Collaboration with our parents is a vital component of student success at Cimarron Middle School. This fall, Cimarron Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on September 21-22nd from 3:30-7:00pm.


Two types of conferences will occur this year - scheduled and open. Scheduled conferences will be set up by each team and elective teacher.

  • These scheduled conferences will be held between 3:30-4:30pm.

  • Invitations will be sent to specific families of students based on need for designated times during the scheduled conferences.


If you are not contacted for a scheduled conference, you are invited to attend the open conferences.

  • These open conferences will be held between 4:45 pm and ending at 7:00 pm.

  • During this time, you will have the opportunity to individually meet with each teacher or team for about five minutes.


Conference reminders:

  • Check grades prior to conferences, as conferences will be about the learning experience

  • Bring your student's schedule.

  • Conferences are an opportunity for you to come in and meet the teachers to find out how your son/daughter’s learning experience is going.

  • At the end of five minutes, you may receive contact information from the teacher for follow-up if needed.

  • Please respect and value other parents’ and teachers’ time.

  • Computers will be available in the commons to check grades/schedules if needed.

  • Questions that could be asked to teachers:

    • How is my student’s learning experience progressing in the classroom?

    • What are some ways I can support my student’s learning at home?

  • Be mindful of the collaborative power of parents and teachers working together for the benefit of the student.

Parent Teacher Conference Food Sign Up

Please use the link at the bottom to sign up to provide dinner for the staff during the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences on September 21st & 22nd. We appreciate any help you can give us. All hot dishes should be placed in a crock pot with a liner. Non-perishable items should be turned in to the office Monday or Tuesday, Sept 19th-20th. Other items need to be turned in by 1:00 the day of the event. Please label any dishes that need to be returned.

Student Attendance Count Day - Thursday September 22, 2016

The Student Count is based on a one (1) day membership count in which districts are asked to report all students who are actively enrolled and attending classes through their district on that date. The total number of student in attendance on that day directly affects the funding Cimarron receives from the State of Colorado, so please make sure your student is in attendance on Thursday, September 22nd!

Evacuation and Reunification Drill on Wednesday, September 28th

As you know, safety is our number one priority at Cimarron Middle School and in Douglas County School District. With that said, we are constantly monitoring physical safety for all students. This includes Standard Response Protocols (SRP) for Evacuation, Shelter in Place, Lockout and Lockdown. We have successfully completed one evacuation drills so far this school year.The next step is a reunification drill. The first evacuation/reunification drill is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28th beginning at 1:10 PM. This reunification drill does not involve parent pick up. Students will learn about the expectations and their roles in evacuation and reunification through Advisement class lessons prior to the drill. To that end, this drill will last approximately 45 minutes and will be taking place at our regular evacuation locations as well as on the Cimarron football field. This will be a great opportunity for our students and staff to practice the reunification process in a purposeful and organized fashion.We ask that student pick up not occur during this time. If a student is needed between 1:10 -2:00 on Wednesday, September 28th, we ask that pick up occur prior to 1:10 PM. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the evacuation and reunification drill on Wednesday, September 28th. CiMS/PTO Annual Fall Movie Night

Students will vote at lunches on Tuesday, September 27th on which movie will be shown. All CIMS students, feeder elementary students and parents are welcome to attend. Pizza, candy and drinks will be available for purchase.

Box Tops for Education

Cimarron will be kicking off our fall contest for box tops NEXT WEEK (9/19/16)! Each pod has a collection bin located near their core classes. There is also a collection bin by the front security desk. Our contest will go until Thursday, October 6th. Here is a current list of box tops products http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products



Students who turn in the most box tops will be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card and coupons to the Snack Shack. Please include your student's name and pod name on the baggie in order to be counted for prizes.

Monitoring Student Safety in the Mornings

To assist in keeping Cimarron Middle School a safe place for all, we ask that all students enter the school at the main entrance/front door each day upon arrival at school. Please DO NOT enter the building in the back by mobiles. Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter.

Modified Block Schedule

Cimarron Middle School has developed a new bell schedule. The biggest change occurs on Wednesday and Thursday where classes are blocked into longer times. Students will attend half of their schedule on Wednesday and the other half on Thursday. Attached below are the two schedules.

Safe 2 Tell

Safe2Tell Colorado provides students and adults in Colorado schools and communities an increased ability to both prevent and report violence, by making safe, ANONYMOUS reports. The 24-hour bystander tipline, staffed by professionals from the Colorado State Patrol, is available to students, parents, and communities to report any kind of concerns to their safety or the safety of others. The Safe2Tell Colorado tipline is completely anonymous and does not have caller ID. The focus of Safe2Tell is early intervention and prevention.
