Principal's Message - Sept. 16th (English)

Happy Wednesday!

Thank you so much to all who were able to attend the Back to School Night event last Thursday. Many parents were interested in learning more about the different models used for language acquisition: 100% Full Immersion, 90/10 Spanish/English, and 50/50 Spanish English. We will be hosting an information night on Wed, Sept 30th. Childcare will be available for $2 per student, but please RSVP ahead of time. Please read the insert below for more information and to RSVP.

Have a great week!

Bilingual/Full Immersion Education Information Night - Sept. 30th

Join us for a viewing of the film Speaking in Tongues (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1337544/) and a Q & A session of full immersion and bilingual education. This will be a very informative evening for those with questions about the immersion model being used in grades Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, and K and the 50/50 bilingual model used in grades 1 - 3. It will be hosted by Dr. Bridget Yaden, Chair of the Dept. of Language & Literatures and Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Pacific Lutheran University. The evening begins at 6 pm.

Childcare will be provided for $2 per child. Please RSVP on the calendar event below or call the office at 253-272-7012.

Cross Country - Volunteers Needed

CYO Cross Country has officially begun (practices are Wed/Fri) and volunteers are needed to help Coach Freeman with practices. If you would like to volunteer, you will need to take a Virtus class (see information below) and contact Coach Freeman at LeroyFreeman82@gmail.com or 253.355.5973 or Eric Westby, our CYO coordinator at CYO@hrrsjda.org.

Chocolate Sale - What Do I Need to Do?

We are asking all students to be responsible for selling one case of chocolate bars. There are 30 bars at $2 each in each case. If a family chooses to opt out, they can send in a check or cash for $30 per student (the profit). Students should make sure they never sell to people they do not know.

If you need more information, please contact Shanan O'Driscoll Hedges at Sohedges@gmail.com.

Spirit Gear - Fridays

This is just a reminder that eligibility for Spirit Gear is determined by the teachers on Thursdays. It is used to reward students for perfect attendance, excellent behavior, and completing all work (at home and school). It will be available all Fridays except the first Friday of the month (which is Pay to Dress to support the orphans). Your child's teacher will communicate to you or your child on Thursday, if the student is eligible for Spirit Gear. Until the orders for this year's spirit shirts are filled, students may wear last year's spirit shirt or a Seahawks shirt on top. The only options for pants are proper fitting blue jeans (without rips) or school pants (navy blue). If you need more information on this please, check with your child's teacher.

Please remember, even if your child is eligible, he/she can always wear the uniform if he/she (or you) choose not to purchase Spirit Gear.

Volunteer Protocol

At Holy Rosary, we love volunteers!! Our school could not function without help from our parents and the greater community. Just a few reminders, though, as you think about ways to volunteer this year.

  • All volunteers must have been cleared through Virtus (attend the 3 hour class and submit to a background check). Go to https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/ and click on Registration.
  • If you would like to volunteer in your child's classroom, please check in with the teacher directly to see what the needs are and the process for volunteering.
  • All volunteers MUST stop in at the office first to check in. Also, please make sure to sign the Volunteer Hours sheet, so that we can track your Commitment Hours for the year.

Thank you for all you do to make Holy Rosary an excellent school!!
