*Created “Analytical Institutions,” a book comprised of the work of many mathematicians. The book was praised for its clarity, was widely translated and used as a textbook. Published in 1748
*Best known from the curve called "witch of Agnesi"
*After the success of her book, Maria was elected to the Bologna Academy of Sciences
(gave up math when father died)

-eldest of 21 children
-tutored by the best because of fathers wealth
-known as child prodigy
-at 9 years old published a latin discourse defending education for women
(because higher education was not practiced)
