Unity Day - Thursday, October 19th
Students and staff are encouraged to wear ORANGE on Thursday, October 19th to celebrate Unity Day. Please note - official Unity Day is Wednesday, October 18th. We celebrate Unity Day in PE class with a school-wide dance...therefore, we need to move our celebration to a PE day. Thanks for your support in this decision.
A note from Kate Barbour (Central PE Teacher): Unity month is celebrated all October to prevent childhood bullying and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. In PE, we have been working on a dance that will be performed as a whole school on Thursday, October 19th. Students will be encouraged to wear Orange on that day!
Central Music Corner
Kindergartners have been “going to the farm” this fall by associating animals with various instrument sounds. We have played rhythm sticks, tambourines, egg shakers, cowbells, woodblocks, and castanets as we learn to work as a team and use our singing voices. Please check out the information below for the 4th/5th Grade Fall Concert.
Halloween is Tuesday, October 31st
Our school is trying something new this year! We are doing a whole school party. It will be TRICK OR TEACH time with a rotation amongst all classrooms K-5 12:30-2:30 pm. Volunteer needs will be determined by the classroom teacher and communicated to parents via teacher/parent communication. Parents are welcome to come view our Halloween Parade at 2:30 pm on the playground (weather permitting). Please line the sidewalk inside our playground gates (gates will open at 2:30 pm). Students will enter the State Street gates by class and parade up the sidewalk toward Grove Street. They will go back into the school at our Grove Street entrance. Regular dismissal to follow. To avoid confusion, we ask that no parents are in the building after the parade/before dismissal. Thank you.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ
As a friendly reminder, our parking lot off Howard Street is reserved for Central Staff ONLY. Please park on Grove or State Street when dropping off and picking up your child.
Start of School Information
Doors open for students at 8:00 am. School starts at 8:10 am. Kindergarten and first grade students are to be dropped off at our front entrance on State Street. Second through fifth grade students will utilize our Grove Street entrance. If you have a kindergartener and/or first grade student IN ADDITION TO a second through fifth grade student, you are welcome to drop off and pick up on State Street. Parents will say goodbye at the door and students will go straight to their lockers to put their things away before coming into the classroom. Staff members will be inside to greet and assist students at both entrances, as well as at the bus loop. Please review our attendance policy (below) for important information.
Central Elementary has a staggered dismissal;
Kindergarten - 2:55 pm
First grade - 3:00 pm
Second through fifth grade - 3:05 pm
Please note that parents are not allowed in the school during dismissal. If you need to meet with your child's teacher or school administration, please reach out to them individually to schedule a meeting.
The Central PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a wonderful way to get involved with fun activities for the school. There will also be opportunities to volunteer in your child's classroom working with small groups or stations, helping with classroom parties, and more. Please know that it is up to the teacher to establish volunteer needs per classroom.
If your child needs medication (daily and/or as needed) while at school, it must be signed into the office. Please contact the office for forms and procedure. Thank you.
Homecoming Week and Run-a-thon Fun
Homecoming week was SO MUCH FUN!! Students participated in Spirit Week and went to The Northmen Stadium to hear the marching band. Central showed up in STYLE with our amazing new school t-shirts (donated by Meyer Ace Hardware and illustrations done by Betsy Petersen - artist/Central parent).
Run-a-thon totals are still rolling in. Pledges are due by Wednesday, October 18th. Thank you to our Central PTO for making this fundraiser a core memory for our students and for helping raise the much needed funds to support our school and students. Thank you to Betsy Petersen for the t-shirt design and Ace Meyer Hardware for their sponsorship to provide every student and staff member with a t-shirt. Thank you to all the amazing Central families that came to volunteer and/or support our student runners!! This event would not be possible without you...THANK YOU!!
