Math Chats are a new feature in ST which consist of whole class lessons (25-30 minutes) that follow a Play - Discuss - Apply model. Each lesson has an introduction, designated time for students to play a specific game, whole class discussion, and a conclusion featuring an extension question designed to deepen conceptual understanding by having students apply what they have learned and discussed. Chats can be chosen based on standard alignment.
Those who have already begun integrating Math Chats have found them to be a great way to tie ST to their math instruction as well as support students working independently on ST. Math Chats can also be a great way to begin a lesson, formatively assess, re-teach and strengthen mathematical discourse.
Math Chats are available now for Grades 3-5 and are coming soon for K-2!
