A Message from Mr. H.
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving with family and friends. I want to extend a special thanks to the Moreau Hall faculty and staff for putting in so much work to prepare for report cards and conferences this week. We have a truly dedicated and hardworking group of educators here at MH!
A big thank you to parents and school members for participating in the FEEE Volleyball Tournament on behalf of Moreau Hall and Easton Public Schools. We may not have won the championship, but we had a ton of fun raising money for our schools!
Thank you for your continued support for our students and our school. I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season, and best wishes for a prosperous new year!
Mr. Higgins

We are excited to announce our fifth annual participation in an Hour of Code. According to Hour of Code’s website, hourofcode.com, this event is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Moreau Hall students in grades K-2 will participate in self-guided activities that incorporate some of their favorite topics to teach the basics of coding. It is an exciting event for our students and teachers. This is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries. Check out the stats and lots of great coding activities at code.org!
A few other apps we've used and found to be great for PK-2 include:
Box Island
Light Bot
Code Spark
Kodable

Mrs. Silverstein's Reading Corner
As conferences quickly approach, many parents will have heard from their child’s teacher talk of the importance of sight words or “the Dolch words”. The Dolch Word List is a list of commonly used English words that was first compiled by Edward William Dolch. Edward Dolch compiled this list based on children's books, and selected 220 "service words" which children need to recognize and read with automaticity, in order to achieve reading fluency. Dolch excluded nouns from his main list, but did compile a separate 95-word list of nouns. Many of the 220 words in the Dolch list, cannot be "sounded out", and must be learned by sight.
In Kindergarten, the end of the year goal is for the children to be able to read many of the 30 words presented to them over the year. In First Grade, there is a big shift and the students are responsible to read 179/220. In Second Grade, the children are responsible for the remainder of the 220 and the additional 95 nouns.
Please visit the website www.dolchsightwords.org for flashcards, games and a variety of activities to play with your child. If you have access to the App Store there are many free games to put on your phones and devices as well. Here are some great ones:

Mr. Dennison’s Music Notes
In November, Moreau Hall Hawks participated in the annual Veterans Day assembly, singing our favorite patriotic songs. This year, the Kindergarten also shared a echo song called ‘Here’s Our Veterans’ which uses the melody of Frere Jacques. The students performed well and with great respect.
2nd graders had two chances to play mallet instruments this month. We used glockenspiels to play short, repeating patterns as the class sang to support them. Each student also had a musical ‘moment’ to improvise on a floor drum. It is interesting to hear what different students choose to play.
1st graders learned the story-song When I First Came to this Land about a man who starts a new life in a new place. We made connections to the Pilgrims arriving in the new world and being thankful for what they can do.
-Mr. Dennison

Easton Public Schools Activity Fee
Each year we ask families to pay an activity fee, which goes to support various activities in town. For Moreau Hall, the biggest activity that is supported through this fee is our connection to Sheep Pasture. In addition to our students going to Sheep Pasture in the spring, the teachers from this great program visit Moreau Hall during the winter to work with each classroom. It is a fantastic learning experience for our students.
The Kindergarten fee for this year is included in K Tuition. The activity fee for grades 1 & 2 students is $45. The fee was due by October 6th.Core Values
