Building a Brighter Future!
2018-2019 Campus Mission and Vision
Jowita Cichy-Jenness 3rd Grade
Hello Pony Family!
I am happy to be part of the Pony family. I was born and raised in Europe and came to the United States at the age of 13. Even though I was already fluent in English, I had to re-learn some parts of the language (slang, colloquial phrases, etc.). I started high school in Chicago and ended up graduating in 3.5 years.
After graduation, I moved to south Florida where I attended Florida Atlantic University. I worked full-time at a local hospital and went to school full-time. I also did volunteer work with the Domestic Violence Unit at the Florida State Attorney’s office where I had to read domestic violence arrest reports and code them according to severity and run background checks on perps and victims. Through this opportunity, I became a probation officer where I mostly handled domestic violence and DUI cases. A year into my probation officer career, I was accepted to a graduate program at Florida State University where I studied Public Administration and Policy. I worked for several nonprofit organizations including the American Lung Association where I was a program manager for a county-wide non-smoking program. I was heavily involved in local politics, and I was successful in passing two county-wide resolutions.
Afterward, I freelanced for a local nonprofit where I educated healthcare professionals on CDC smoking guidelines for their patients in underserved areas. I also led smoking cessation groups, as well as trained others how to become certified facilitators. I left nonprofits and decided to get into accounting because I wanted to do something radically different. It was a great experience; I loved reconciling bank statements, finding account inconsistencies, or doing month-end adjusting entries. However, I missed the creative part of my non-profit days and decided to become a teacher. Now, I have an opportunity to analyze data and be creative.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our fur kids (one dog and two cats).
Congratulations to Ms. Becker District 1st year Teacher of the year!
