Current events
By Allison Shamus, 5th grader
Hey Bobcats! This week for current events I am going to tell you about something that kids have done and about a fun little surprise!
This past week, a kindergartener named Dominic Kash (Mrs. Borchard’s class) drew an amazing BB8 from Star Wars! He also made a lego creation that looks like he put a lot of effort into making it, and it was incredible. In addition, he made a sweet Mother's Day present for his mom, a jar with hearts! His brother Sebastian also created a lego project and drew an amazing Boba Fett. These Bobcats are very inspiring, kind, and caring.
Also, Ms. LaManna, our Learning Consultant, has got a sweet surprise for us! We have some small eggs lying in an incubator, and they are getting ready to hatch! I have interviewed Ms. LaManna, and you can see the video below.
Thank you Ms. LaManna! We can’t wait to see the chicks!
And that wraps up the current events for this week! See you next week!

ESTIMATION JAR!
Thanks to the 25 students who submitted guesses for our estimation jar.
The student with the closest guess is Avery R. Her guess was 450. This was very far away from the actual count which Juliana will share next week.
(Technical difficulties prevented us from sharing her video this week.)

HABITS IN ACTION
Habit of the Week - Habit #5 - SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD
By Zoe Reptoski, 3rd Grader
Hi Bobcats and welcome to another week of the Bobcat Pride Press!
Today we will be reviewing and learning about Habit 5. The Lighthouse Team just learned a lot about Habit 5 and we wanna share that with you guys!!
Did you know that there is more to Habit 5 than just seeking first to understand then to be understood most people do not listen with the intent to understand, but they listen with the intent to reply. Some people don't even listen to what you are saying!! They sometimes just say “yeah” or sometimes “cool”, but people who really know what Habit 5 means is that sometimes you have to listen and understand the person, not just stand there and reply with what happened to you.
A good example of that would be like this: Maybe your Mom won't let you have an allowance any more and you are kind of mad about it because you can't buy something you want. Maybe your friend would reply like this nicely so that they don't hurt you or others feelings they say “so what you are saying is that your mom won't let you have allowance for chores and you are kind of mad because you can't buy stuff you want?” that friend you had was listening a lot then they understanded you and listened they even replied with what they heard from you to see if they were listening correctly!!
That's it for this week Bobcats! Bye!!
Here’s a little video about listening: Habit #5 Seek First to Understand

Learn Something New - Draw a Dragon
By: Quinn Guthrie, 4th Grader
Learning doesn’t just have to be about school work, the most fun we have learning is when we learn about something we are interested in. This could be reading or math, science or history, even writing. It can also be learning a new recipe, how to cook or create a code or robot. Always keep learning and your mind will always keep growing.

Mrs. Caudill's Read Aloud
This week Mrs. Caudill started reading a new book. The book is Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. Ms. Funke has written several books our upper elementary students may be familiar with including Inkheart and The Thief Lord. The book appeals to all ages, from early elementary to adult. It is a story about friendship, adventure and the true meaning of home.
The story is about Firedrake, Ben and their furry friend, Sorrel, who are in search of the mythical place where dragons can live in peace forever. Together, they embark on a journey that takes them to magical lands where they meet marvelous creatures - and one ruthless villain. Along the way, they discover allies in odd places, courage they didn't know they had, and a hidden destiny that changes everything.
