"Make the world just a little bit better..."
Through our partnership with the Ronald Reagan Foundation & Institute (located just four miles from campus), our award-winning Citizen Scholar Institute Diploma Seal Program has become one of Royal's most important educational experiences and honors for students. Through genuine civic engagement, service learning, and social accountability, students are empowered to create unique service projects to improve the lives of others. They are guided through a year-long process to "make our world just a little bit better" through their self-designed initiatives.
Recently nearly 70 Highlanders joined us at the Reagan Library to explore our program and to brainstorm possible service projects they would implement to earn their seal. Even if you were unable to attend - you can still join. For students interested in joining this year's Citizen Scholar Diploma Seal Program, review this site and our timeline for Fall 2021. Follow the specific steps to begin your process to join one of Royal's premier programs.
Complete These 3 Steps to Join This Year's Program
STEP 1: Learn about CSI at Royal
- If you have questions about the program, contact Mr. Dennert, Mr. Downey, Ms. Myszkowski or Mr. Dobson (the CSI Advisory Team - email links below)
- Review the CSI Website and the information shared there especially the Program Overview and Requirements
- If you missed our Sept 27 Kickoff meeting at the Reagan you can...
- Review the informational slide deck from the presentation that evening (in particular view the Simon Sinek video regarding "Your Why")
- The video of the event will be posted within our CSI Website in the next few days
STEP 2: Fill out your Interest (Google Form)
STEP 2 IS DUE ASAP
- You do not have to know exactly what your project will be right away, but having an idea of what you're passionate about it important. A general idea is required at least. Remember to view the slide deck above and determine what you feel are greatest needs in our world or community or school.
- Then think of a realistic, tangible way you can create a service project to meet that need (that can be successfully completed by April)
- For inspiration, these are some the past projects students have implemented. Check them out for potential ideas.
- You may do a project individually or in a group (3-4 members) max
- Fill out this Interest Form to let the Advisory Team know that you (or your group) are interested. From here we will begin to create our list of participants for this year's CSI Cohort.
STEP 3: Submit the Official Proposal Form
STEP 3 IS DUE OCTOBER 15th by 4:30 PM
FINALIZE YOUR IDEA AND SUBMIT IT FOR APPROVAL
(We will never tell you, "no." However, in an effort to strengthen your idea, we might call you in to discuss and refine it before you are fully approved.)
- Download the Proposal Form here or on the CSI Website.
- Complete this on your own or with your group. If this is a group project, only one person (that you select as "point person") is responsible for emailing this to Mr. Dobson. Please save your document in PDF format.
- Email the completed proposal document to Mr. Dobson by October 15th. (Note: if you came to the CSI Kickoff Event, we are moving the deadline to submit Proposal to October 15th.)
