A Note from Mrs. Vlcek
Calling all Technology Trailblazers and Remote Learning Rangers!!!
The time has come to begin the 2020-2021 school year! So pull on your boots and spurs and "Saddle Up for a Year of Learning!!!"
This year is sure to be filled with lots of learning. We are so excited to be able to once again provide top-notch instruction. Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, & Writing will be taught each day. We are continuing our specials curriculum as well and your students will receive instruction in Art, PE, Music, Technology, & Library. We will begin our learning each day at 8:50 a.m. and continue instruction until 4:05 p.m. During this time, students will engage in direct instruction, shared instruction, guided practice, independent work, and small group discussions. In addition to instruction, we have planned for multiple breaks throughout the day. Teachers will provide students restroom, drink, movement and screen time breaks throughout the instructional day. A classroom schedule was provided to each student in their instructional materials. If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.
Teacher "Office Hours" or "Review Round Up" also occur each day. This in an opportunity for students to ask their teacher questions and to get extra support on material covered throughout the day. If your child has an instructional question, this is a great opportunity to be able to get extra support. If you have a question that pertains specifically to your child, please schedule an appointment and your child's teacher will be able have a virtual meeting to address your question or concerns.
Your child(ren)'s teachers have been working tirelessly to prepare high-quality instruction in a remote learning setting. They have become well-versed in Microsoft TEAMs, the Omaha Public Schools online learning platform, and many other technology resources. You are going to be AMAZED at what you child(ren) will be able to do in the coming weeks! We truly cannot wait to see your children learn and grow this year!
With Ponca Pride,

10 Tips for Technology Trailblazers and Remote Learning Rangers!
Cowboys & Cowgirls know a Routine is important to success. You can help your child be successful in remote learning by having a routine each day. This routine make begin with setting an alarm and having an order to what needs to accomplished the morning for example, wake up, brush teeth/hair, get dressed and eat breakfast. Your day may conclude with a nightly routine including time to enjoy some free time or time outdoors, dinner, homework, reading for 20-30 minutes each night, plugging in iPad, picking clothes for the next day and going to bed at a time that will allow for a full night's rest.
2. Eat a Healthy Breakfast:
Cowboys & Cowgirls start their day off right with a healthy breakfast. Make sure you are ready to for the day by enjoying a healthy breakfast.
3. Set up a Learning Spot:
When setting up a learning spot, keep the following suggestions in mind. Make sure the spot is away from t.v. or other online learners. This will eliminate background noise and feedback from other devices. Have all instructional materials ready to go in your spot. Choose a spot with access to a plug to chart your iPad. Also, make sure our furry friends don't have access to your space. Although we love our animals, school is no place for them!
4. Come prepared:
Cowboys & Cowgirls ALWAYS come to the ranch prepared. As a Technology Trailblazer this includes your learning materials, your CHARGED iPad and your NEVER GIVE UP attitude! You may also want to have a water bottle handy, but remember no snacks during instruction.
5. Dressed for Success:
Cowboys & Cowgirls dress for the ranch. Remote Learning may be happening outside of the physical classroom, but it is still important to get ready to learn. Please make sure you have proper attire to the school day, including tennis shoes on P.E. days!
6. Check your Background:
Before you log on check and double check that everything visible in you screen is something you want your peers and your teacher to see.
7. Post your schedule:
All students received their classroom instructional schedules for your reference. Please post this near your child(ren)'s learning spot to help them stay on TRACK!
8. Be on time!
Cowboys & Cowgirls are dependable and arrive on time. They have lots to do and learn and no time to waste!
9.Perservere!
There will be days when students have questions or don't understand the new information. Thank is okay! Parents can model grace and encouragement when this happens. One of the greatest indicators of future success is the ability to work through a challenge. Don't give up Raccoons, keep working and asking questions and remember, Never, Never give up!
10. Positive Attitude:
This is a Cowboy & Cowgirls's GREATEST asset. Stay positive even when things get difficult!
Congratulations Raccoons! You are officially a Technology Trailblazer.

MEALS to go!
We understand students may share time between more than one household, so we ask you to consult with any other parents or guardians, then submit a single meal request to avoid duplication. The request form will ask for your student’s ID number. That can be found on official mailings from our district or through our family portal at: https://campus.ops.org/campus/portal/ops.jsp. If you are a first-time portal user, please contact your school's secretary for assistance.
During the school year, regulations require different procedures than our summer meals program. Beginning in August, adults picking up meals will need to bring a driver’s license or other document that verifies their identity. On the request form, you will have the opportunity to list two adults who may pick up meals for your student(s). Adults picking up meals will also need to provide a document showing their students' OPS student numbers (report card, school schedule, etc.).
If you have issues with your survey, please reply to this email. If you have questions or concerns about student lunches or the Meals 2 Go pickup, please contact Nutrition Services at 531-299-0230.
Please submit your request as soon as possible to allow time for us to share this information with schools.
