Message from Mr. Garrett
What a great week at the Original Ridge, I loved seeing all the students at WMS! I again want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work hard to be more efficient in our new drop off and pick up locations for students.
I appreciate your support and allowing us to educate your student each day at the Ridge. Have a great 5 day weekend!
Sincerely,
Carl Garrett
Principal- WMS
Mask Guidelines
Please see the information below concerning mask guidelines at WMS. Following these guidelines each day will help not only protect your son or daughter but other students and staff members as well.
- Surgical masks or cloth face coverings made with two layers of fabric.
- Cloth masks should be washed after you wear them in hot water with detergent. Bleach is not necessary to kill the virus on cloth masks.
- Make sure masks fit securely over your nose and mouth.
- Masks with valves in them are not recommended, because the valves allow all of the mask wearer's exhalation to exit through the valve.
If your child does not have a mask with two layers of fabric, we have extra surgical masks to give to individual students as needed.
Spring Track Season
Parents, we will have a spring track season this school year! It will look a little different given our current hybrid learning mode, but here is some information to begin with:
-If your child plans to participate in track, they will need to have the KSHSAA Physical, Concussion and Waiver Forms on file. Please click here to access these forms: https://www.usd231.com/o/wheatridge/page/athletic-physical-participation-forms
-First track practice will be on Monday, March 1.
-Students can only come to practice on their hybrid in-person days at school. Fridays are optional for athletes to attend practice, but transportation will not be provided.
-The track website has detailed information regarding the track meet schedule as well as safety protocols that will be in place to keep students and staff safe.
-The Parent Meeting Information Google Slides presentation is taking the place of a traditional parent meeting. Please go to the website below and click on the Parent Meeting tab to find this presentation. Parents need to read through the information found on those slides to be up to date with all of the protocols and information for the upcoming season.

Please reach out if you have specific questions or concerns. We are looking forward to having spring sports back at WMS!

- Reason for Absence

This will include reporting an absence for the days they are remote and cannot log in at the required check-in time.

Drop Off / Pick Up Information
Thank you for your patience as we navigate having 5th - 8th grade students back at WMS and the new expectations for drop off and pick up.
PLEASE pull up as far as possible in the loop. This will allow more students being dropped off or picked up at one time. It may take a few more steps for your child, but it helps keep the line of cars behind you moving!
Do not park in any of the parking stalls for drop off or pick up. We want to keep your student as safe as possible and keep the flow of traffic moving efficiently.

Inclement Weather Days
Earlier this week the district emailed information to parents regarding the plan for inclement weather. Please take a minute to review the document and be familiar with the schedule changes when we move to a Flexible Instruction Day and the buildings are closed.
Please view this document to learn more about our inclement weather protocols:

HOW TO STAY INFORMED
When the chance for severe or inclement weather looms, we will only post the cancellation of school, athletic events, and other activities.
If school is canceled or a Flexible Learning Day is called due to inclement weather, the information will be available in the following formats:

Treats for Celebrations
Just a gentle reminder to parents: if you are planning to provide treats to be handed out in class for a special celebration, such as a birthday, they need to be individually sealed/wrapped. An example would be Rice Crispy Treats that were factory sealed.
Her is another GREAT option for you as well:
In addition to providing breakfast and lunch, did you know USD 231 Nutrition Services also cater birthday treats directly to the 5th grade classrooms? Hassle-free, safe and affordable options to celebrate your student’s special day.

Please allow one-week notice for events.

Document Cameras Still Available
Attention 6th-8th Grade Hybrid Students:
The district has made available document cameras for all hybrid students until you return to full time in person learning at WMS.
Pick Up Procedure:
- Since the pick up day has passed, please come to the WMS Main Office, ring the buzzer and let us know your student's name and grade. We will bring the camera to you at the door.
Students will turn document cameras back in to the district once we return to full time in person learning.
