Message from Mrs. Gray
Dear Salem Woods Families,
Stamina and Routines
We are slowly building our stamina after the winter break
To build stamina we need to make sure our children are getting to sleep early and at the same time each night.
Children ages 3-11 need between 10-12 hours of sleep
To build stamina they need to eat breakfast
Breakfast is FREE for every student, every day in our district;
breakfast starts at 8:45am in our cafeteria
Morning routines are so important for children and adults. Make a schedule with your child with pictures and/or words of the morning routine. It will become their habit.
COVID Protocols and Preventions
Our best preventions for COVID are Masks Up over our noses, Hand Washing frequently, and Physical Distancing from others as best we can.
If an adult or other family member in your home has symptoms and is getting tested, PLEASE keep your child home from school until the test results are in. If the results are positive then your child is a “close contact” and needs to be home quarantined. If they come to school and then become positive, then they are potentially exposing others.
Frequently Asked Questions about COVID19
Our district website has a COVID-19 page that includes the Latest Updates.

Melanie Gray

Digital Learning News
Happy New Year! For this rotation of Digital Learning in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will be introduced to algorithms. They will help create an algorithm for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in an interactive (and potentially messy) activity. They will then have additional practice in writing algorithms in their groups.
In grades 2-5 we will be working on research strategies by integrating Brittanica, an online encyclopaedia ideal for research that is available on the MSD site under student tools. They will work with a partner to conduct research on a relevant grade-level topic and fill out an outline using Google Docs.
Keep Calm and Code On!

Renewal of School Program & Operations (SP&O) Levy
Did you know that state funding alone doesn't cover the cost of all of the programs, services, and essential staff the Monroe School District provides for its students? We rely on funding from the local, voter-approved SP&O levy, which makes up 15% of the district's total budget.
The four-year SP&O is set to expire in 2022 and Monroe School District will be asking voters this February to renew this critical levy.

Extended Library hours
Starting Monday, January 3rd, our Library will be open at 8:25am. Students can come in and read until breakfast starts/classrooms are open at 8:40am. Due to COVID social distancing regulations we are limiting capacity to 16 students. Parents must sign their student up in advance using the Morning Signup Genius link below.
The library will also be open after school from 3:25-3:45pm for students. If you would like your student to stay parents must sign up in advance using the Afternoon Signup Genius. Parents are expected to pick their student up promptly at 3:45 from the office. Parents will need to come in to the office so that the student can be called down. Please keep in mind that our office closes so we will not be able to assist parents after that time.
Please use the provided Signup Genius links to reserve your day and time. Students will not be allowed to attend if they are not signed up.
At this time we are asking that you only sign up for one slot per week so as to allow everyone who is in need to have the opportunity to use this extended time.
