To keep everyone updated, this newsletter highlights some of the changes that have been voted on and links to the new policies that are now in place.
RECENT POLICY UPDATES
Community Relations
- Policy KHA: Public Solicitation in Schools - Addition of “or designee”. Removal of “school related organizations” to avoid any confusion.
- Policy KLG: Relations with Police and Fire Authorities - Link to MOU added.
- New Policy KLJ: Relations with All Planning Authorities - Addition of a new policy to outline coordination between the District and planning authorities for any items that could directly affect the schools
Building and Grounds Maintenance
ECB: Building and Grounds Maintenance - Edited to include specific policy language related to
life-systems maintenance during school hours while students are present and to codify in policy that alarm system maintenance will not be engaged during school hours.
Student Focused Policies
- JICA: Student Dress Code - Edited to align more with the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support and include references.
- JB: Equal Education Opportunities - Edits to wording and to expand the list of protected classes.
- New Policy JBB: Educational Equity - New policy that was recommended to adopt with some edits
- Removed: JCAA: Racial Balance Policy: Assignment of Students to Schools - Removed as was very outdated.
- JF: School Admissions - Edits made to remove “as will certain children who do not reside in the City but who are admitted under School Committee policies relating to nonresident students or by specific action of the School Committee” and a referenced policy that is no longer current
- JFABD: Homeless Students: Enrollment Rights and Services - Change “homeless students” to “students experiencing homelessness” throughout the policy including the title. Other wording changes.
- JH: Attendance Policy - Additions of sections on Dropout Prevention added from MASC’s model policy with some edits. Regulation to be removed from the policy manual and added as a link within JH with the edits suggested
- JHE: Observance of Major Religious Holidays - Removal of specific holidays being listed as it varies year to year based on calendar days. Removal of bullet #3 as it can be resolved by the educator and student. Changes to wording.
- JI: Student Rights and Responsibilities - Changes to wording and addition of references to the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support.
- JIC: Student Conduct - Updated to align with the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support. Addition of supports for students impacted by unskillful behaviors.
- JICC: Student Conduct on School Buses - Addition of guardians and reference to the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support.
- JICFA: Prohibition of Hazing - Removal of “Any student determined by the Principal to be the organizer of a hazing activity may be recommended for expulsion from school but will receive no less disciplinary action than that of a participant.”
- JK: Student Conduct - Update to align with the Code of Character, Conduct, and Support.
Title IX Policies
- Policies were rewritten to be current with updated laws and to be more complete policies
- AC: Non-Discrimination and Harassment
- ACA: Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex
- ACAB: Title IX Sexual Grievance Procedure
- New Policy: Civil Rights Grievance Procedure
