Bulldog PRIDE!

Greetings families and friends! As part of our school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) program, we will have whole school assemblies throughout the year in order to teach expected behaviors, celebrate student accomplishments, and build school community. We call these assemblies "City Meetings," and I'm happy to share that our first meeting on October 18 was very successful. I shared our school wide behavior teaching matrix with students in order to ensure clear communication of expectations. You can see a copy of our matrix below. We also talked about the importance of "participation" in school. Students will achieve the best results when they are active participants and agents of their own learning. I encourage you to have conversations with your child about how they are making an effort to increase participation in school.

Our City Meetings are also a great opportunity to develop student leadership and give students practice with public speaking and presentation skills. We were all very proud of fifth grader Payton Mays (pictured below) for talking with students about an upcoming class recycling contest, and fourth graders Analise Barnette, Ida Bensouda, Fatoumata Jaiteh, and Genesis Santana for sharing their positive messages about bullying prevention. I look forward to giving many more students the opportunity to shine at future meetings.

As we enter November, I just wanted to express how thankful I am to be part of the Garden City School community, and especially for the respectful, kind, eager students you send to school each day. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support!

Sincerely,

Bryan Byerlee, Principal
