Shark Scoop
December 2022
Principal, Mr. Marker
Dear Naples Park Families,
December has arrived at Naples Park Elementary School. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This month is once again filled with academic opportunities to shine, and lots of fun in learning.
Academically, all grade levels will show off their reading success with our second iReady Diagnostic. Beside scoring great, allowing me to boast about our Sharks to the world, these assessments help us see how our kids are learning and how we are teaching in language arts. We are then able to tailor their learning moving forward to each student’s individual reading needs. It is important that each student tries their best ensuring our results are accurate, so any support along that front from you would be appreciated.
NPE’s annual Breakfast with Santa🎅🏻/Winter Festival⛄ leads the fun in learning events, this coming Saturday, December 3rd from 8am – 12pm. Our amazing PTO has transformed the school into a true Winter Wonderland in preparation for this celebration. I hope to see you here to enjoy the Magic of the Season, Shark style! We also have upcoming a “Dress in 70s Gear” on December 8th, celebrating our school’s 50th year birthday. 🎂 Later in the month, the fun continues more along the Physical Education track as we compete in our annual field day and participate in the CCPS 5k event. 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️👟
It is good to be at Naples Park Elementary School…Home of the Sharks.
Sincerely,
Christopher Marker
Principal of the Naples Park Sharks

Car Tag Dismissal Updates
Starting January 3rd, 2023, ALL cars at dismissal are required to have a proper school car rider sign written by the front office (most of you have these). If you don’t have one, you will be required to park and come into the front office during dismissal time to get one.
Helpful Tip- During the month of December, if you don’t have a proper car sign, please stop by the office during school hours (7:30-3:30) with your Drivers License to get a proper car sign made by the front office. We will be reminding you of this during December as these signs will be required starting January 3rd, 2023. Thank you for you cooperation as we want to make sure you child gets home safely each and every day.
Sweaters and Jackets
As we get into the cooler months, please make sure to write on the tag or your child’s sweater/jacket their first name and last name initial. Many students leave their sweaters/jackets in different locations (recess, lunch, etc. ) and we want to make sure we can return it to them.

Please see important school times below:
School Doors Open: 7:45am
FREE Breakfast: 7:45am-8:15am

Attendance Matters
We are always striving to make sure NPE students are at school, on time, every day! Every moment of learning is important to your child’s development and progress. Thank you!
*Please note- If your child is absent for any reason, please call the front office at 377-7700 to let us know why your child is absent so we can properly notate that. In addition, all absences are unexcused unless a doctor’s note is provided. Per Florida Statute (1003.26(1)(b), students with 5 unexcused [or validated] absences within a calendar month, or 10 unexcused [or validated] within a 90 day period are considered truant and an attendance meeting may be scheduled with the school and district personnel.
School Counselor, Mrs. Johnson
I hope you had a relaxing Fall Break and a wonderful Thanksgiving. For many of us, these little breaks give us much needed time to spend with our families and friends. We would like to give a special THANK YOU to the Ladies of Charity for their generosity this holiday season. They donated a Thanksgiving Meal to some of our families at NPE. We also want to send a special THANK YOU to Barb and Jim Tarzy. Mrs. Tarzy teaches at DeMasi Elementary School in Marlton, NJ. Her school donated a large amount of gift cards to help our families affected by Hurricane Ian, as well as, turkeys and books to the Gargiulo Education Center, which serves many of our students and families. We are very grateful for their support and generosity.
The month of December always goes by quickly. Our 1st graders will be participating in the “Hands are for Helping Not Hurting” presentation. We will also be celebrating our Shark Leaders of the Month on December 16th. This month’s Character Habit is Perseverance. I’m looking forward to a FINtastic month at NPE!
Thanks,
Candace Johnson

Hello Sharks,
It’s hard to believe that we’re already preparing for the second i-Ready® Diagnostic. The second Diagnostic is an important benchmark for understanding your student’s growth, which is why it’s so important they try their best. These results allow us to better support them in achieving their goals for the year. The testing window is December 5-12th. Please see below for your child’s grade level IReady Diagnostic 2 date:
12/05 -Kindergarten - Lawson/Maldonado
12/06- Kindergarten - Roy/Vorperian
12/06 -First Grade - All Classes
12/06- Second Grade - All Classes
12/07- Third Grade - All Classes
12/07- Fourth Grade - All Classes
12/07 -Fifth Grade - All Classes
The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motivate them to put forth their best effort.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
· Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the Diagnostic!
· Talk to your child about why the second Diagnostic is important. You can say things like:
o The second Diagnostic helps you find out how much progress you’ve made since the beginning of the year.
o It allows your teacher and I to celebrate your accomplishments!
o Try your best, and do not rush—but don’t spend too much time on a question either.
o Remember, questions on the Diagnostic change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see some questions you don’t know. That is okay! Just try your best.
· Let them know you’re excited to celebrate their progress.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s learning.

Habit 3: Put First Things First
When you put first things first, you organize your time around the important things and eliminate the unimportant. When life gets busy it can be challenging to remember where our focus should be. How can you practice this habit? Check out some ideas below!
- Talk to your family about your most important responsibilities and prioritize them (homework, making your bed, etc.)
- Do your homework right when you get home!
- Make a list of things you need to accomplish and check them off as you go.
- Have family meetings to check in with one another to ensure each person is Putting First Things First!
By helping your family “Put First Things First” you will feel less stress and can enjoy the little moments life has to offer!
Fifth Grade News
Fifth Graders are looking forward to our very busy month of events! This month we will be graduating from the LEAD program with Deputy Barraco. We will also be attending a concert at GCHS and participating in the Panther ZooCon with the Naples Zoo. We are looking forward to learning more about animal adaptations in science and hearing from the zookeepers. In math, we are working on dividing multi-digit whole numbers using different strategies. In reading, we have been exploring different genres of stories and identifying relevant details that support the central idea. Fifth graders will also be taking their second iReady Diagnostic. We can’t wait to see how much they have already grown this year!
Clinic Corner, Nurse Angela
Our NPE Clinic is in need of children’s clothes sizes 4-16 for boys and girls. If you have any gently used clothing your child has out grown, please send them to the front office. Thank you for your help!

FUN FACT: ·
Santa Claus is 1,751 years old as of 2022. In fact, the origins of Santa Claus can be traced all the way back to a monk named Saint Nicholas, who was born between 260 and 280 A.D. in a village called Patara.
Hanukkah lasts for eight nights to commemorate how long the holy light burned.
The word 'Hanukkah' means 'dedication'.
