Important Information
NAESP: Report to Parents - Helping Children Cope with Tragedy
Butler Elementary works hard in maintaining and promoting all safety standards - which includes steadfast emergency preparedness protocols, daily safety standards and practices, and a positive relationship with the New Britain Township Police Department. In light of the recent school tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) has published a valuable resource in supporting children in light of a tragedy - whether if a child is a victim of tragedy or affected because they heard about a tragedy. To read more about supporting your child, please read NAESP's: Report to Parent - Helping Children Cope with Tragedy.
"Young children shouldn’t have to learn about tragic events, but they do. Some are exposed to disasters firsthand, as victims. Others discover the tragedies by watching the news or overhearing adults or other children discussing the events. It is a sad fact that all children need to know how to deal with tragic events—and their parents and caregivers need to know how to help them cope..."

Our Butler 5th graders had a very informative and educational trip to Washington Crossing Historic Park on Tuesday, May 31st. Connecting to their curriculum, they had the chance to experience colonial life through the lens of General George Washington’s historic crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas of 1776. Students visited stations to learn about colonial clothing and games, to experience the challenges of being a soldier, and to spotlight the importance of Durham boats to the logistics of moving supplies and thousands of soldiers across the river. Seeing the location where important American history was made was exciting!
