Taking Care of Ourselves
The winter season brings up many different feelings for adults and children alike: comfort, anticipation, stress, gratitude, grief, joy, etc. During this time of mixed feelings, it is important to focus on the positive to build resilience. This takes intentional work as our brain is actually wired to remember and recall negative times in our lives in order to trigger a response to keep ourselves safe and comfortable. One option for helping our brain and build resilience is to create a "remember-lutions jar." This idea came from the book and Workbook called "Onward" by Elena Aguilar. This can be an alternative or addition to New Year's resolutions, or for any time of year you feel it would help. Over a course of time (semester/quarter, school year, etc.) fill a jar with notes about memories, accomplishments, things you are proud of on a timed system (daily, weekly, at certain meetings, etc.) Then, at the end of the time frame (semester, school year) sit back and read through your notes. You can do this alone, with a team, with your family, or with students. We wish you all a happy transition into the New Year focused on how truly amazing you all are!
Happy Wishes from your School Social Work Team

3 Districts Learning Together Around Inclusive Practices
This was about our learning but we have to share the incredible kudos that came forward around our amazing staff! Comments like:
- All learners were really engaged in the content
- The learning activities were clearly related to the learning targets
- It was hard to tell who was the classroom teacher, who was the learning specialist, and who was the paraeducator--everyone was working with everyone
- There were clear structures for students to work with each other
- Project based learning gave an authentic context to the learning and students really rose to this
- Paraeducators were so skilled in knowing how to facilitate learning with peers
- Peers seemed very natural in helping each other
- The school just felt so inclusive
We know that on any given day, folks might also see us in the midst of struggle and complexity. But it is also so affirming to hear the hard work of each of you, especially our Squirrels (Cedaroak Park) and our Lions (West Linn High) recognized and appreciated!
