2019 Bond Election: Early Voting Begins April 22
The Allen ISD Board of Trustees has approved a bond proposal that would fund a number of school renovations, improvements and upgrades over the next six years. The $422.8 million proposal will now be included on the May 4, 2019 ballot for Allen ISD voters to consider. If approved, the sale of bonds would not increase the existing Allen ISD debt service tax rate.
The bond proposal would fund renovations at eight campuses (Evans, Boon, Cheatham, Olson and Chandler elementary schools, Curtis and Ereckson middle schools, and portions of Allen High School). The renovations would provide new educational spaces for students and would help decrease future maintenance and energy costs.
The proposal would also enhance safety and security features on campuses. Security upgrades include a protective film on windows, systems to communicate with local fire and police, and upgrades to secure entrances.
Another item included on the proposal is the installation of playground turf at every elementary campus. Currently, rainy weather might cause the playground to be shut down for several days because of muddy conditions. With turf, students would be able to play outside as long as the weather permits.
Other proposed projects include construction of a new agriculture science center, network upgrades to provide greater bandwidth on each campus, and the purchase of new school buses. For a complete list of project details, visit www.allenisd.org/bond2019.
Early voting runs from April 22-27 and 29-30, and Election Day is on May 4. Allen ISD residents can vote at any Collin County early voting location. The Allen Municipal Courts Building (next to City Hall), is the most centrally-located voting location in Allen.
