ESL Certification Prep Opportunities
ESL Certification Prep Opportunities
Due to popular demand, Region 10 has opened three more Saturday ESL #154 Certification Preparation sessions. The dates are March 31, 2018 , April 14, 2018, and April 21, 2018. This session is free for members of the Region 10 BE/ESL Cooperative.Student Unique IDs
Student Unique IDs
As a reminder - Unique IDs are assigned to every student - It is a ten digit id assigned by the state. Applications like Istation, MSTAR, ESTAR, Imagine Math, and some Clever integrated applications that we use require that a student have a Student Unique ID. If the student does not have a state 10 digit ID (Student unique ID) an account cannot be created for the student for that application. Starting March 12th, TEA is updating the student unique id application to a new system. While TEA is completing the updates, the unique id system will not be available to assign unique ids to new students. Any student enrolling after March 12th will not receive an unique id until the week of April 2nd. Therefore, new students enrolling after March 12th will not be available in any software that require unique ids (like iStation) until after April 5th.
Please do not manually add students as this causes issues when our automated process kicks in.
Science
Science Store
The science store will probably be moving again at the end of this school year..
They would appreciate if teams could start early this year in getting the science store balances spent. Grade level science leads should get together and gather a list of items needed to finish off the year and/or start off next year.
They can special order items from:
Science Cut Ups- usually between $15-$20
Region 4- like their Warm Up to Science books (they now have 3,4,&5)-run about $75
Foldables Book- $30
AIMS books-run about $73.00
or other items that you all might be needing.
The sooner we can get this done, the better off we will be not having to rush in May.
Live organisms- ALL will need to be picked up at Science Store- nothing coming directly to schools
1st Chicks-April 24
2nd Grade Butterflies- April 23
3rd Grade Ladybugs-March 26
4th Grade Mealworms-April 16
4th Grade Owl Pellets- March 19
5th Grade Praying Mantis & Milkweed Bugs-March 26
Math
Region 4 Mathematics STAAR Workstations
If you are looking for additional materials to begin to help target skills in math for STAAR, check out Region 4 Mathematics STAAR® Workstations. Mathematics STAAR® Workstations are a student-centered review resource used to address Mathematics TEKS that, based on current data, have proven to be challenging for students. All activities are TEKS-based and may be used to enrich Tier I instruction or as a review at the rigor outlined by the TEKS. Designed to increase student achievement, each workstation fits into a file folder, making it convenient for use on demand in small-group interventions, stations, or review sessions.
Fifth Grade Cluster 6 CER
In lieu of a CBA for cluster 6 for 5th Grade, students will complete a performance based task using Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning (CER). Prior to teaching this cluster, teachers should examine all content TEKS included within the performance based task, the CER task itself, and the CER rubric to ensure alignment of instruction for cluster 6. The CER is located in the CBA section of the GPS. Possible lessons have been provided in the GPS to assist during planning. There are 4 options for a CER. The teacher may choose one to model, and the students will complete one on their own. The student performance on each component of the rubric (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) will be documented in AWARE in the Student Inventory section. Teachers should see this option available (Cluster 6 Personal Financial Literacy CER). This information will need to be reported by April 13, 2018.
