Understanding Common COVID Scenarios (Updated from Last Week)

Next Steps for Common COVID Scenarios

Since my update last week, the guidance and decisions trees have changed--namely as it relates to quarantine procedures. Scenario #3 is the MOST common and has changed most dramatically. Students who remain asymptomatic after exposure are welcome to return. A test on day 3-5 after exposure is recommended.

  1. My student has COVID-19: Return to school on Day 11 after the onset of symptoms or date of COVID test OR have student test (PCR) on Day 5 after symptoms or positive test result.
  2. My student is exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19: The student may return to school after receiving a negative COVID test (PCR) and with improved symptoms.
  3. I was notified that my student may have been exposed to COVID: Your student (whether vaccinated or not) may return to campus if he/she is not symptomatic. A condition of remaining in school is to obtain a PCR test within the Day 3-5 range after exposure. Parents should report positive test results to the school.
  4. My student has had COVID within the last 90 days: If your student had a lab-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis within 90 days, and he/she is not symptomatic, your student is not required to quarantine or test. Please contact our Health Office to confirm the diagnosis and date range.

COVID Testing on Campus

MVHS continues to host on-site COVID-19 testing for students, parents, and the community at large. Testing is conducted by our partner, Inspire Diagnostics, and is available Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm in our Theater Lobby. **Testing WILL be available this Monday, Jan. 17 ( even though there is no school that day).

Vista Unified has several additional testing sites operating across the district as well. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Magnet School Application Window is Open Now

The Vista Unified Magnet Schools Application Window is open now and runs through February 25th. If a lottery is necessary for MVHS, it will be held in early March, and offers of admission will go out in mid-March. If you have an incoming 9th grader or know of any student who would like to join MVHS next year, please share this information.

The application is now open, and our Front Office staff are available to answer any questions applicants may have.

**Current MVHS students DO NOT have to re-apply for next year -- they will remain enrolled with us.

School Tours are Happening. Help Us to Spread the Word.

MVHS has begun to host on-campus tours for prospective families, and we have FOUR tours remaining. The purpose of the tours is to give potential incoming students and parents an in-depth overview of what MVHS has to offer ahead of the VUSD Magnet School Application window, which opens in January.

The tours include a brief informational session led by MVHS administration, followed by a student-led tour of the campus. See the flyer attached here for more details.

The next tour is Tuesday, January 25th, at 4pm in the MVHS Theater.

*Tour participants must wear a mask while on campus

Provide your Feedback for the District's Strategic Planning Process

Vista Unified has begun its Strategic Planning Process, which will define and outline our collective work in service of students for the next several years. As part of this process, it is important to gather feedback from all stakeholder groups in our community. Please see the flier to the left, or click the link below to ensure your voice is heard in this work.

Academic Planning Sessions

On Tuesday, our Counseling Team will be leading all current 9th-11th grade students through the initial academic planning process as students explore course options for next school year. We encourage our parents to review course selection options as well as the academic plan in place for their student(s). More information to come next week!

Seniors: Fill out the FAFSA or Dream Act Application!

Seniors! Click here to find out more information about filling out the FAFSA or Dream Act application.

All seniors are encouraged to do this, regardless of family income status. All too often, students hesitate to apply for college because they think it is cost-prohibitive, and on the flip side, some students think their family makes "too much" to qualify for any financial aid. Frequently, this is not the case. MVHS encourages ALL seniors to fill out the FAFSA or DreamAct application to find out what financial aid for college exists for them.

Health and Safety Update

Weekly COVID Cases on Campus

In lieu of sending all-school community updates for every case of COVID on our campus, I will provide a brief update for MVHS in the Wolf Pack Weekly.

During the past week, MVHS had 13 new cases of COVID-19 among students/staff who were on campus.

School community members can also follow up-to-the-minute data on our District's COVID-19 Dashboard.
