SPIRIT WEAR DELIVERY WEEK!
Counselor's Corner
Hello Hawk Families!
This week our wellness message to students was the importance of healthy sleep habits. The American Academy of Pediatrics supports children between the ages of 6 to 12 years old sleeping between 9 to 12 hours every night. Getting adequate sleep on a regular basis leads to improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, emotional regulation, quality of life, and mental and physical health. On the contrary, not getting enough sleep each night is associated with an increase in injuries, hypertension, obesity, and depression.
How can you help your child get better sleep?
- Establish a bedtime routine that works for your family
- Make sure your child’s bedtime reflects the needed hours of sleep prior to their wake-up time
- Encourage all screens be turned off 30 minutes before bedtime (avoid having screens in children's bedrooms if possible)
Helping your child build healthy sleep habits now will help them keep healthier sleep habits as teenagers and adults.
You can contact Mrs. Martyniuk via EMAIL or request she visit with your child by using THIS FORM.
Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Counseling Services
Due to the unique challenges military members face and the impact they have on families, the Office of Military Community and Family Policy provides Child and Youth Behavioral Military Family Life Counselors (CYB-MFLCs). CYB-MFLCs have advanced degrees (masters or doctoral-level) in the mental health field and specialized training in child and youth development.
They support the needs of children and families by partnering with parents, faculty, counselors and staff to foster healthy growth and social skill development
Please see THE CONSENT FORM for more information. It can be returned to the office or to Mrs. Martyniuk, our school counselor, and we will pass it along to your child can receive services.
You can also reach out directly to the counselor by calling (805) 603-6835
