Principal Update
Happy Friday RSI Parents and Family Members,
Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Anthony Ianni as a guest speaker who talked with all of our young Hawks. Anthony's presentation was truly exceptional and all about how he overcame tremendous challenges being bullied throughout his childhood. Anthony was diagnosed with autism and was also very tall at a young age. Both which he suffered tremendous negative pressure from his peers. If you click on his info below you will note he was a highly successful collegiate basketball player at Michigan State. His work around anti-bullying and disability awareness has been strong over the past nine years. His message to our Hawks, "Be the Change!" Only we can do what is right and always stand up for and respect those who are different than ourselves. I hope you all consider his message too. We can all do better at helping those in need, those who are mistreated, and those who are simply different than ourselves.
I want to continue to thank each of you who have helped your child/children engage in the PTO sponsored Read-a-thon. Thus far our Hawks have raised almost $30,000 and our students have read over 250,000 minutes! Way to go RSI parents and community! As you know the funding from this event will support ALL students at RSI. Keep the reading going and thank you for your support.
Remember you are welcome to join RSI in our One Book, One School Reading project. This month all RSI Hawks will be reading and discussing Linked by Gordon Korman. I invite all of you at home to join in the read by having your child open the link below with their school email. You can read or listen as a family and review the discussion questions as well. The links below will help you if you choose to join in.
I wish you a wonderful and safe weekend.
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.
Riverside Intermediate Principal

Covid Info for Families
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
