The B.Y.E. Buzz
Week of March 1
Principal Corner
Happy 1st day of March! We are so excited about warmer weather. Please remember that our school day starts at 7:45. If your child is not here by 7:45, it is important you complete the digital check-in. Some students have been counted absent by mistake because they were not checked-in. Teachers complete attendance at 7:45, and our office staff updates attendance throughout the day by viewing the check-in/check-out form. Thanks for your help!
It is time for Student-Led Conferences. Be sure you signed up for a conference spot with your child's teacher. They will also send a short video for you to watch before the conference. If you have any questions from the video, they can be discussed at the conference.
It is Dr. Seuss Week! See calendar of events below.
Our Book Character Dress Up Parade will be Tuesday, March 2nd at 2:00 PM. This event will be outdoors. Parents will be allowed to attend our event. It will be videoed for those that can't attend. We will require social distancing and masks to be worn. Please see the map below for family seating. This event has been approved by the Arkansas Department of Health and all regulations must be followed.
Update Student Information
It is time to update student information and begin planning for the next school year. Make appropriate changes to your child's information sheet. Pay close attention to the mailing and physical address, parent and guardian information, and emergency contact information. Be sure to include the names of anyone that is allowed to come to have lunch with your child at school. You will then sign the bottom of the form and return it to your child’s teacher. Additionally, we need proof of residence for each student. This can be in the form of a gas or electric bill.
With Springdale Schools opening a new school this year, we are still waiting on final zones to be announced. This will enroll your child at their zoned school for 2021-2022 school year. All 5th grade student information will be updated and sent to the appropriate middle school.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this form and returning your proof of residence. We need these forms returned to the school by Friday, March 5th so we can begin planning for next year. This summer, you will receive a letter in the mail to give you another opportunity to update any last-minute changes to your child’s information.
PTA News
Let's spoil our amazing teachers! We provide snacks and a meal for each teacher during conference week. Sign up by clicking the "Sponsor A Teacher" image to donate toward this. Thank You!
It is almost time to nominate new PTA board members. Please consider this opportunity and plan to attend the March PTA meeting if you are interested. The March PTA meeting will be held at Harber Meadows Pool House on March 9th at 8:00AM.
Covid Links
We work hard to protect all staff and students at BYE. Last semester we had 20 positive Covid cases. This is less than 1% of our Young family. We will continue following safety protocol this semester. If at any time your child is positive for Covid, please go to the site below and complete the form titled Student/Staff Covid 19 Positive. If your child has been exposed to Covid, please go to the site below and complete the form titled Student/Staff Covid 19 Household Exposure. The site is: sdale.org/covid
Thank you for your help with keeping us safe.

Notes from the Counselor
Counseling Lesson Theme- Self Esteem
Of all the things we help our children with, helping them to develop a healthy self-esteem is probably most important. This is because self-esteem affects all aspects of their lives – how they learn, how they interact with friends, how they treat others, how they problem solve, how they handle adversity, and how willing they are to try new things. Self esteem is our beliefs about our self, how capable and loved we feel. It is our shield against life's challenges. Here are some tips to help your child develop healthy self-esteem.
Praise your child- Notice when your child has done something well and tell them!
Validate their feelings- If your child gets a blow to their self-esteem, they need you to allow them to feel sad, hurt, or mad. Afterwards, you can boost them up with positives.
Avoid harmful comparisons- Don’t compare your child to others. Let your child know that it’s okay to be different, and that you don’t expect perfection.
Give your child chores- Children learn how to function in groups by learning how their own family cooperates. Set your child up to be a team player by giving age-appropriate chores at home. Offer praise for their work!
Spend time with your child- Your children know how busy you are, so when you find 10 minutes to listen about their day or play a game, they will feel worthy and loved. The gift of time spent is worth much more than the gift of money spent.
Here are some more self esteem tips!
