Parent's Plug-In Newsletter

August 2021

What is the Parent's Plug-In?

Welcome to the Parent’s Plug-In newsletter! Plug-In will be covering topics in Educational Technology for our district. One of the goals of the Educational Technology Department this year is to provide parents with information and support to navigate the digital world with their students.

COMING IN THE 21-22 SCHOOL YEAR

1:1 Devices

Let's start with Crosby ISD's 1:1 initiative! All students from Pre-K through 12th grade will be issued a district-owned device if they do not have one in their hands already. We are excited to see the positive impacts this will make on our students' learning. Please remember your child needs to bring the device to school every day fully charged. Keep an eye out for parent and student technology resources on the CISD website.

Bark Parent Portal

Crosby ISD uses Bark for Schools to help us monitor school-issued accounts for signs of digital dangers. When potential issues like cyberbullying, suicidal ideation, and threats of violence arise, Bark sends us a notification. Parents and guardians can benefit from receiving these alerts, as well.

Get Alerts With the Free Parent Portal

Kids use their school-issued accounts both at school and at home, and families are often in a better position to respond to urgent alerts after hours, on weekends, and during breaks. These are times when administration may not be available in the event of an emergency. In the coming days, you will receive an invitation to create your free account for the Bark for Schools Parent Portal. As soon as you opt in, you’ll start receiving after-hours alerts when Bark detects potentially time-sensitive issues.

Monitor Texts, Social Media, and More

Bark for Schools is free for both our school and for you. For even greater coverage, you can also sign up for Bark for Families, which monitors texts, chat, email, YouTube, and 30+ social media platforms for potential safety concerns. You can find out more about how Bark works here.

If you have any questions, please contact us at helpdesk@crosbyisd.org. Thank you for your support as we strive to help keep our students safe both online and in real life.

Jamf Parent App

Jamf Parent is a free iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android app that allows you to manage your children's school-issued mobile devices. Using Jamf Parent, you can restrict and allow apps and device functionality on your children's devices. You can only manage your children's devices with Jamf Parent during the time periods specified by the CISD Technology Services department. This is to prevent accidental settings that would impact the students' devices during instructional time.

Download the Jamf Parent Guide below for setup instructions.

Schoology for Elementary

Crosby ISD utilizes Schoology, an integrated learning management solution that provides course management, mobile learning, and support for system-wide communication. Schoology enables our students, parents, and teachers to engage with learning materials and their school community from the classroom and beyond. We look forward to using Schoology in our classrooms to enhance connectivity and communication across Crosby ISD. More information will be sent out for Parent Access at a later time.

Introducing CISD Account Access

In an effort to empower end-users and improve security, Technology Services offers students a password reset tool called CISD Account Access.

Now CISD students in grades 6-12 can manage and reset their own account passwords. Students can set up their account profile, where they have the ability to use a personal email and cell phone to receive verification codes to allow them to reset their password.

CISD Technology Services requires all students in grades 6-12 to change their passwords. This will be done in class during the first or second week of school.
