News From Panther headquarters - December 2022
From the desk of the Principal
Hello Panther Parents/Guardians,
Well, we’ve made it to the end of another calendar year. I’m sure all of your resolutions from January are on track! In all seriousness, it’s always a big deal to get to this point and reflect on the successes and lessons of the previous 12 months. It’s something our school has been doing and we are excited to finish the semester strong as we gear up for 2023. Of course, winter break is approaching, and I’d like you to consider engaging in our substitute teacher process. If you have time and would like more information, please reach out to us. Even if you can’t commit every day, any day would be a big help.
Last spring, Hamilton Southeastern Schools was awarded the 2022 Digital Learning Grant from the Indiana Department of Education. This grant supports work focused on improving student learning through Universal Design for Learning and assistive technologies. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices ensure that all students can access their curriculum. HSE Schools is focusing the work of this grant at our Intermediate Schools. As a condition of the grant, all 5th and 6th grade students will participate in the Universal Protocol for Accommodations in Reading prior to Winter Break. You can learn more about uPAR HERE.
As we are coming out of the Thanksgiving season and into the winter holidays, we want you to know that we are thankful for the opportunity to partner with you in educating your students each day.

Attendance/Early Dismissals
Please call the attendance line, 317-594-4126, by 9:00am to report all attendance including early dismissals, all day absences and late arrivals. This allows the staff adequate time to facilitate the requests. We will send your student a pass and have them waiting for you in the office at the time requested.
Additionally, and for planning purposes, our car rider line does seem to form quite early so dismissals after 3:30 may be difficult to maneuver.
If you do not call ahead……the parent/guardian will need to show identification to have the student dismissed. This is for the security of our students.
NOTE: Please be aware that it may take time to locate students who are at lunch, outside for P.E., Recess, etc. The more notice you can give the school, the smoother this process becomes. We appreciate your assistance!
Drop Off Area Reminder
Drop off area is located at the entrance of the building.
Please continue to drop off your students items on the drop off table in the main lobby. If you circle that you have texted your student, a note will not be delivered to them. Our student aids bring the items into the office for students to come and pick up.
Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to work on protecting our class time and safety.

2023 HIJH Costa Rica Service Adventure
HIJH's First Annual Costa Rica Service-Learning trip will be June of 2023. We are excited to announce that the trip will now be open to all current HIJH 7th and 8th grade students.
Costa Rica has it all - from white sand beaches to misty cloud forests to towering volcanoes and beautiful rivers, as well as friendly, hospitable communities. The trip will be filled with adventure - surfing, white water rafting, hiking to waterfalls, and a hands-on experience at a local coffee farm. We will also give back in a meaningful way by connecting with locals and completing a project that is determined and needed by the community.
Walking Tree is a fantastic and reputable travel company that provides safe, customized, and authentic education opportunities around the world. HIJH will be the second junior high in our district to experience and explore Costa Rica with Walking Tree.
Please attend our next information session via Zoom on Thursday, December 8 at 4:10 pm.
