Message from Geordie

Dear Families,

We have had a fantastic week here at St Bernie’s with lots of sunshine, students playing throughout the school again and with parents welcome back onsite. Ricky Grace basketball has started up again and our new Year 3 St Bernie’s school basketball team will have their first game tonight! Huge thanks to the parents who have organised and run this, it is great to see our new facilities being used before and after school. Good luck guys!

We would like to welcome our new families to St Bernie's: Oscar P - 4B, Zavier L - 2L,

Lucas B - 2B, Iyah B - KGR, Xavier T- 2B, Kaylee T - KGR. Please welcome them into our Bernie's community.

Today we welcomed our Mother’s, Grandmother’s and other significant women in our life to school for some Mother’s Day Pampering and activities. I would like to thank all women in our school and community who work so hard to care for our students in many ways. From working to provide for the family to making lunches, nursing us when we are sick, bringing in an iPad to school that was forgotten, serving on the P&F, helping with homework and everything in between. Our Mum’s are very special people and I hope you all have the opportunity to say thank you and celebrate the significant women in your life this weekend! Thanks to Mrs King and all the teachers for making today a success.

Next week and in Week 4 our Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN Assessments. Our teachers have been reassuring students that these assessments are nothing to be worried or concerned about and that all we ask is that students do their best. Can I please ask parents in these years to ensure students are well rested and have a healthy recess and lunch. All students who miss assessments due to illness will be able to complete them if they return in the 2-week window. If your child is worried about NAPLAN, please let the classroom teacher know so we can support your family and help them to feel comfortable.

Finally, just a reminder about school playgrounds being used after school. I am happy for these to be used by parents until 3.20pm, however, after this time I ask that parents take their children home as we are not covered by insurance and our office closes. It is the responsibility of parents to supervise their children and there should be no students playing without their parent directly supervising them. We want to ensure everyone stays safe and doesn’t get hurt!

Enjoy the weekend!

A gentle reminder that our main form of communication with families is our weekly Newsletter that is emailed to all parents, every Friday afternoon.

We have noticed that many of these have not been opened and are left unread, this means that some of you are missing out on important information for upcoming events and school notices.

Please ensure that you read the Newsletter so as to keep up to date.

All our Newsletters are uploaded to our website should you need to refer back to them -

Wastesorted Accreditation

Some BIG news for the week! St Bernadette's is now a "Wastesorted Accredited School". This award recognises our efforts to avoid and recover waster while developing positive, long term values in our community.

Congratulations to all our Eco Warriors and particularly to Mrs Murphy and the the Environmental Ministry who work so hard on these initiatives! Well done!

Bread Bag Initiative & Containers for Change

Our Bread Bag Recycling Initiative is well under way and our collection bins are filing up fast! Please remember to drop your bread bags into the blue bin in the undercover area.

Don't forget we have a Containers for Change deposit bin on the far side of the church car park. All money raised through this bottle recycling goes to our lovely P&F who use these funds for school projects. Please support this.

School Canteen - Kingston's Kitchen

Our school canteen is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and ordering can be made in person or online via before the 9.00am cut off.

Lost Property

Our lost property tub is over flowing again!

Please check these items which are in the bin outside the Library.

School Photo's: 19th May 2022

A quick reminder that school photo's are now on Thursday 19th May.

Sibling photo's will take place before school on a first come first serve basis.

Collecting children during the school day

As the Covid regulations have relaxed and parents are now allowed on site, please come into the office for a sign out pass if you are collecting children early.

You are now able to go down and collect your child/ren from their classrooms.

Lifecycles in Science

Our students were treated to some very special visitors to the science room this week, a tarantula and a Stimson Python!

Thankyou to Paula Surjan for sharing these creatures with us and providing an opportunity for the children to get up close!

Family Business Directory - a message from the P&F

We are creating a Family Business Directory which we think would be a great way to support small business in our community.

It must be a family owned business. This includes all the amazing parents who make items or bake amazing food or provide services like plumbing, lawn mowing etc.

The directory will be saved as a file on this page and it will also be on the school website (under the family section).

The cost to advertise will be a $20.00 annual fee.

If you would like to advertise your business please send an email to
