St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 2 | 6 May 2022
Message from Geordie
Dear Families,
We have had a fantastic week here at St Bernie’s with lots of sunshine, students playing throughout the school again and with parents welcome back onsite. Ricky Grace basketball has started up again and our new Year 3 St Bernie’s school basketball team will have their first game tonight! Huge thanks to the parents who have organised and run this, it is great to see our new facilities being used before and after school. Good luck guys!
We would like to welcome our new families to St Bernie's: Oscar P - 4B, Zavier L - 2L,
Lucas B - 2B, Iyah B - KGR, Xavier T- 2B, Kaylee T - KGR. Please welcome them into our Bernie's community.
Today we welcomed our Mother’s, Grandmother’s and other significant women in our life to school for some Mother’s Day Pampering and activities. I would like to thank all women in our school and community who work so hard to care for our students in many ways. From working to provide for the family to making lunches, nursing us when we are sick, bringing in an iPad to school that was forgotten, serving on the P&F, helping with homework and everything in between. Our Mum’s are very special people and I hope you all have the opportunity to say thank you and celebrate the significant women in your life this weekend! Thanks to Mrs King and all the teachers for making today a success.
Next week and in Week 4 our Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN Assessments. Our teachers have been reassuring students that these assessments are nothing to be worried or concerned about and that all we ask is that students do their best. Can I please ask parents in these years to ensure students are well rested and have a healthy recess and lunch. All students who miss assessments due to illness will be able to complete them if they return in the 2-week window. If your child is worried about NAPLAN, please let the classroom teacher know so we can support your family and help them to feel comfortable.
Finally, just a reminder about school playgrounds being used after school. I am happy for these to be used by parents until 3.20pm, however, after this time I ask that parents take their children home as we are not covered by insurance and our office closes. It is the responsibility of parents to supervise their children and there should be no students playing without their parent directly supervising them. We want to ensure everyone stays safe and doesn’t get hurt!
Enjoy the weekend!
Geordie

Congratulations to all our Eco Warriors and particularly to Mrs Murphy and the the Environmental Ministry who work so hard on these initiatives! Well done!
Bread Bag Initiative & Containers for Change
