GMS MEDIA CENTER
SEPTEMBER 2014
Computer Lab Update
Excited to report that we have new computers (also new computers in Rm. 210) in our GMS Media Center. The Research class is being taught the first four periods of the day, but the lab is open after 11:15. We are trying desperately to maintain the working status of these computers. We have created a seating chart template for the lab. If you could, when visiting, please assign a student to a specific numbered computer, and share that they are responsible to leave it in working condition.
We will also be creating a sign-in sheet for individual students who need to use computers. We will be asking them to identify the number of the computer that they are using as they sign in.
As we all know, students' choices are so much better when they are held accountable! Your help is truly appreciated!
Classroom Meetings
We are now the proud owners of 4 reading chairs, 2 coffee tables and 1 rocking chair. Thank you to the donor of these fabulous additions. If you need a quiet space to hold a classroom meeting, meet with a small group of students or even consult with a student one-on-one, please feel free to utilize this area!
Time for a quick read
Lots of new books
Readers are leaders :)
Classroom Check Outs
Thank you to all of you who have brought your classes to the Media Center to check out books! I have had positive feedback from students and parents, especially the students who do not rotate through the Specials schedule. Please let me know what works for you so that we can continue to schedule visits.
Homeroom: Please remind students that they can check out books or use LMC resources every day during homeroom!
HOT NEW SERIES
The Lorien Legacies (Pittacus Lore)
John Smith has arrived in Paradise, Ohio, just another stop in a string of small towns where the 15-year-old has been hiding out from the Mogadorians. Those aliens are hellbent on destroying him and the other nine Loric children who have sought refuge on Earth. The Mogadorians are picking off the surviving kids in numerical order. The first three are dead and John's number is up.
The Maze Runner (James Dashner)
Thomas wakes up in an elevator, remembering nothing but his own name. He emerges into a world of about 60 teen boys who have learned to survive in a completely enclosed environment. A new boy arrives every 30 days. The original group has been in "the glade" for two years. They have begun to give up hope. Then a comatose girl arrives with a strange note, and their world begins to change.
Starters. Enders. (Lissa Price)
Following the Spore Wars, 16-year-old Callie struggles to carve an existence for herself and her younger brother, Tyler, in a California where everyone between the ages of 20 and 60 has perished. Although many in this near-future society eke out meager, hopeless existences, an elderly, wealthy Beverly Hills population and their grandchildren continue their lavish lifestyles. Adding to her desperation to survive is Tyler's rare lung disorder, making finding a stable home environment imperative.
Schedule
Mondays, Tuesdays and every other Friday - In order to provide consistency, I am planning to be at GMS on these days, and GIS on the opposing days! Kim DiAntonio will be here for the 5 day week.
If we can help you in any way, we are happy to do so! Feel free to email or call 614051.
