VISION STATEMENT
TO EMPOWER ONE ANOTHER TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE WORLD
A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
Dear Families,
We had a wonderful week and concluded our parent-teacher conferences. In PE, our kindergarten and first-grade students have started on their unit where they are learning how to ride bikes. It's exciting to watch the students develop their skills over the next couple of months.
Additionally, a friendly reminder: if you send a birthday treat in for your child, they will be enjoyed in the classroom. Please refrain from bringing them to pass out at lunch if you plan to visit your child during that time.
Finally, just a reminder that there will be no school from February 15th to the 19th for students.
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
Warm regards,
Barb Flowers
Counselors Corner
Dear Brimfield Families,
Greetings! As we navigate the journey of nurturing well-rounded and emotionally intelligent students, it's essential to recognize that while students are primarily accountable for their actions, your role as a parent or guardian is crucial in guiding them towards effective self-regulation. Understanding the underlying emotions behind your child's anger is a vital first step. Anger is often a surface reaction, masking deeper feelings of disappointment, sadness, or frustration. By identifying the root cause, you can more effectively support your child in addressing and working through these emotions.
Self-regulation also involves equipping your child with practical coping strategies to manage their anger. Many of our classes have collaborated with me to explore various coping skills. I encourage you to engage with your child about the strategies they've learned and identify which ones they feel most comfortable using. Practicing these coping mechanisms during calm moments significantly enhances their ability to employ them during times of distress. Acknowledging and praising your child's efforts to use their coping skills—or even their attempts to do so—reinforces their progress and lets them know their hard work is recognized and appreciated.
Perhaps the most challenging aspect of guiding your child through moments of anger is managing your own emotional responses. It's crucial to model the behavior you wish to see by staying calm and utilizing coping strategies yourself. Responding to anger with anger can exacerbate the situation, whereas demonstrating self-control and patience offers a powerful example for your child to emulate.
Should you have any concerns or wish for further discussion on supporting your child's journey towards emotional resilience, please don't hesitate to reach out. Together, we can create a supportive and understanding environment that fosters growth and emotional well-being.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kuzas

PE NEWS!
This year's roller skating unit for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be February 26th-March 22nd! Your student will be bringing home a permission slip this week. Please make sure they return the permission slip and $12 fee by February 14th. If your student has a helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 26th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the skating unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use. Please make sure to read the permission slip carefully as we do have some changes this year. Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, starting February 8th, all kindergarten and first grade students will be participating in our strider bike unit! The strider bikes are specifically designed for young students to learn how to balance while using their feet to push themselves along. Once students are comfortable with their balancing skills, pedals can be added to the bikes so they can experience a more traditional biking experience. If your student has a bike helmet at home please send it to school with them before February 8th. They can store the helmet in their classroom until the bike unit is over. If your student does not have a helmet to bring in, I will have some that they may use.

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
