Spring Carnival - Silent Auction items needed!

Can you believe that Penny Road's famous Spring Carnival is just around the corner? We are so excited to bring back our silent auction this year - bigger and better than ever! We are currently busy soliciting big ticket items, but we need your support. If you have a beach house (or any rental connections), new electronic items, or if you own a business and could help us out, it would be greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible. Have a donation or need more information? Please contact Lindsay Tremelling at Thank you!!!

Spirit Wear Sale!!!

Has your student outgrown their Spirit Wear shirt? We have marked down all our on-line inventory. This includes t-shirts, magnets, key chains and more! All orders will come with a free gift! Sale ends on Friday, February 16. Orders will be delivered to your child's classroom within 2 days of placing an order. If you have any questions, please contact Lindsay Tremelling at Check out for all your options!

3rd-5th graders-PRE Pacers wants you!

Penny Road Pacers is back. All 3rd - 5th graders are invited to join Ms. Martin for this weekly training event. Do you love walking or jogging? Have you ever thought of participating in a 5k race? Then this club is for you! This is a six week training clinic to learn about pacing, cross-training, stretching and healthy eating leading up to the Cary Road race on April 14. No previous jogging experience required! Sign up by February 16 with Ms. Martin!

Free Weights needed for Odyssey of the Mind student team!

Our Wood Wonders (balsa) team needs MORE free weights to test the structures they are building. We are looking to BORROW or for DONATIONS of free weights that are disc-style and that have a center opening that can easily clear a pipe that has a 2-inch diameter. (Photo included for examples of the kind of weights needed.) We would love to have these weights soon, as our team is needing to test structures each weekend between now and the Regional Tournament on March 3rd!

If you can help, PLEASE contact Jessica Vollmer at or Amanda Rhodes at

Journey Pictures are In

Strawbridge Studios is offering Penny Road families Journey Pictures. If your child has been at Penny Road, for 3+ years, you will receive this compilation of all of their fall school pictures. If your child has not had 3 fall pictures taken while at Penny Road, you will receive a special set of Valentine’s Day photos in your Journey packet.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these sheets, please keep the ones you would like and return the rest of the packet with your payment. Please do not cut any of the photo sheets! If you do not wish to purchase any of the Journey photos, please return the entire envelope to your child’s classroom teacher. These pictures may have already come home or will be coming home soon, so keep an eye out for these adorable keepsakes!

The deadline to purchase pictures and return the envelopes is Thursday, February 15.

Books & Beyond

All Kindergarten and 1st grade parents,

The kids are doing a great job reading and submitting sheets. Give all our Kindergarten and 1st grade kids a round of applause!

The winning classes for December are for most improved numbers since October:

Kindergarten - Mrs. Wohlschlaegers with 50 sheets submitted!

1st grade - Mrs. Poole with 43 sheets submitted!

Don’t forget that in addition to individual awards to be presented at the end of the school year, each month the classes are working hard to win class prizes (special snacks, games for the class, and more).

To honor the upcoming birthday of Dr. Seuss, we are initiating a challenge called “Pump Up the Volume” to all the kids. We are challenging each child to read and SUBMIT 2 sheets from February 14-28. The goal is to read 5,500 books in two weeks. Pick out your books now and don’t forget to submit your sheets by February 28!

You will have an update in your child’s Friday folders on how many sheets we have on record for your child. This will include sheets you have submitted for your child and sheets submitted by the teacher of books read in class. Thank you for continuing to help foster a love of reading by participating in this great program!
