Remember the Iceberg
Dear Cougar Family,
We are 5 weeks into our 5th year as a campus, and even more successes are amassing atop the CSHS "iceberg." From athletic victories to more National Merit recognition than ever before, our school is securing its stronghold as a premiere Texas high school.
These accolades certainly deserve celebration! Please remember that if you would like your club, organization, or team recognized on the daily announcements after the pledge, email the text of your announcement to Victoria and me.
I also want to take a moment to remind you all of the "Iceberg Illusion" that is illustrated below. Success is not possible without all of us buying into the same common vision: Pursuing Perfection...Achieving Excellence. Each decision we make throughout the day communicates to our students whether or not each individual on our campus buys into this vision, and every detail of our day helps keep the iceberg afloat.
Please remember that our common expectations are the key part of creating an environment at CSHS in which students can strive for success. Take a moment to make sure you are helping communicate these common expectations to our students:
1) IDs: Students must where them from when they enter the building to when they exit after school.
2) Tardies: Please do not let students in without a pass after the tardy bell.
3) Hall Passes: When a student leaves your classroom, he/she needs either a bathroom pass that clearly indicates the student is from your classroom and has permission to use the restroom nearest your room OR a blue hall pass that is completely filled out. More hall passes are available in the attendance office.
4) Hall Duty: Students should be met by lots of smiling faces as they make their way to the next class.
5) Dress Code: Short shorts, leggings without a fingertip-length shirt, and hats are the most consistent issues administrators are seeing. Please check students as they enter your classroom. Often, we do not see a student out of dress code until lunch, which means they've gone by at least 4 teachers before we see them.
These common logistical practices help teach our students good habits and show them that the adults on campus are both consistent and persistent.
Thank you for your help in making our campus so successful--both in the ways seen overtly by the public and by the way you conduct your classrooms each day! And as always, COUGAR PRIDE

AVID College Cafe GRAND OPENING!
Tuesday Sept. 27th is the Grand Opening of College Cafe in Room 1044
We will be open each Tuesday and Thursday during all lunches. Students can come in for help with college applications, studying for ACT/SAT, applying for FAFSA, scholarship help and more. College students and college admissions representatives will be available for help and questions.
Stop by for coffee or tea and work in a relaxed environment with plenty of help!
Counselor's Corner
There will be a junior class meeting during English classes on Monday in the LGI. Please tell students to bring a writing utensil.
The last day to drop levels in courses is Friday. The student must have the completed pink sheet turned in to their counselor by Friday. There are no course changes - example: PreCal to Data Analysis - they are two different courses.
Walk & Talk & #ObserveMe Reminders
If you are willing to have an administrator and teacher visit your room during a Walk & Talk, we'd like for you to customize this sign and post it on your door. In addition, the Twitter hashtag #ObserveMe is an initiative in which educators invite others in to observe their classes and provide them feedback regarding a specific professional goal. If you would like the administrators and teachers who visit your room to provide specific feedback, please include these "Look fors" on your sign. Search Twitter for #ObserveMe to see things teachers from around the nation are doing to grow through peer coaching. Listing these "look fors" on your door sign is optional, but this feedback would be a key tool in ensuring you are progressing toward meeting your personal goal(s).
Updated Walk & Talk Schedule!

October 19th!
We will be administering a practice EOC to our 9th graders, the PSAT to our 10th and 11th graders, as well as have some special activities for our seniors on October 19th. This is an "all hands on deck" type of day so we need you here.
I am about to begin testing assignments but before I can do this I need to know a couple of things:
- Are you already scheduled to NOT be here on October 19th? If so, please let Randi know ASAP. Please do not put in for an absence now that you know we are testing that day.
- Do you have a child/dependent (living with or away from you) who is taking the PSAT this year (either here at CSHS or elsewhere)? If so, you cannot administer the PSAT. There are plenty of other awesome jobs that day so I will assign you to one of those! Please let Randi know ASAP.
Cougar Pride Yearbook
Staff can buy a copy of the 2016-2017 Cougar Pride yearbook now for the lowest price of the year at www.smart-pay.com. The current price ($75) will increase to $80 on Sept. 17, and then to $85 on Oct. 15. After online sales end in the spring, we must charge the full price plus tax (around $97).
We appreciate the support of our staff and all of the positive feedback we received on last year's book. We're already hard at work on this year's book, whose theme, Vivid, incorporates both our school's 5th anniversary (roman numeral V) and the awesomely vibrant and passionate student body we're lucky to serve.
