Important Dates
- West School celebrates Halloween on Tuesday, October 31st. Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school! We will have a class party hosted by our room reps and select volunteers.
- First Quarter wraps up on November 3rd. Report Cards will go live on November 17th & Parent Conferences are on November 20th & 21st. More info to come!
Actions
- Keep sending in non-perishable food for the New Trier Food Pantry!
- Yesterday, we sent home an opinion writing piece the students did with a rubric attached.
Our Learning
Math
- We've covered a lot this week! We've tackled factors, prime & composite numbers, area of rectangles, time conversions and multiplicative conversions.
Literacy
- We did our first Interactive Read Aloud of the year, with a great book called The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson. The students practiced responding to a text in writing with text evidence.
- We are working on identifying the main idea of text and supporting details!
Social Studies
- We are currently working on an inquiry project about the first people of our state. We are learning about what life was like when the Peoria, Potawatomi, Sioux, Miami, Ho-Chunk and Kickapoo first settled the land we are learning about.
DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion)
- This week we explored stereotypes found within Halloween Costumes. We discussed stereotypes people might have about costumes marketed towards boys and ones marketed towards girls and analyzed if companies doe a good job challenging steroetypes.
