EL DIA DEL NINO CHILDREN'S DAY APRIL 29
PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
Poetry Contest
The gifted and talented students at Parkway Elementary participated in a poetry contest. Students worked on the importance of sensory and figurative language in creating a visual picture. One winner from each grade was chosen by a panel of judges.
Congratulations to the following students:
1st grade: Melia Jones in Mrs. Grave's class
2nd grade: Chloe Clark in Mrs. James’s class
3rd grade: Sadie Sage in Mrs. Fisk’s class
4th grade: Ethan Luna in Mrs. King’s class
Biographies
Mrs. Grave’s CEER class spent a couple of months researching their favorite person of interest. Students spent countless hours learning about their person of interest. Not only did students write a paper about their person of interest, they also made a face poster of them. They were so cute! Great job, Mrs. Graves’s class!
Muniz’s Readers
Ms. Lesly Suarez, PT Elementary Parent Liaison, surprised Mrs. Muniz’s class one day. She brought each student a book bag as well as English and Spanish books. They couldn't wait to read the books when they got home! Thank you, Ms. Suarez, from Mrs. Muniz’s class.
JUNIOR HIGH
Neither tornados, nor boil water notices, nor internet outages (etc!) will keep Pirates from Rockin! PTJH students and staff have navigated an extremely eventful spring with flexibility and resiliency and have continued to rise to the occasion each day.
Our Pirate and Lady Pirate Track teams put an exclamation point on the season by bringing home two District Championships (7th and 8th grade boys), a 2nd place District finish (8th grade girls), and a 5th place finish (7th grade girls). These are fantastic results against a very talented and competitive athletic district. Congratulations to the athletes and coaches on a great season!
Our Fine Arts students represented PTISD well at recent competitions. The PTJH Treble
Choir, under the direction of Johanna Eppley, participated in UIL Concert and Sight-Reading at Texarkana High School and walked away with a first division, receiving a superior rating in Sight-Reading. Both PTJH Bands performed well and were rated excellent on stage and superior in Sight-Reading.
The PTJH and PTMS Math Science Team traveled to San Antonio to compete in the Texas Math Science Coaches Championship Meet. The team placed 3rd overall in the 5A division against 37 schools from all over Texas! They also earned trophies in all four team events placing in the top six, as well as winning 35 individual awards for top 20 places. Great work by coach Michelle Randall and all of the students!
BIRCH ELEMENTARY

She was nominated by Ms. Andrea Mabe for going above and beyond in everything she does. Her attention to detail and ability to help make others jobs easier is unmatched. We are so thankful to have Mrs. Debbie as part of the Birch First Family.

Assistant Principals' Week
At Birch Elementary, we are privileged to have the leadership of Mrs. Amy Clugston who serves as our campus Assistant Principal. Her impeccable attention to detail helps our campus run efficiently and effectively. She makes it a priority to greet students throughout the day in a manner that makes them feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
Mrs. Clugston provides a listening ear to those that have struggles or need advice despite how long her task list is for the day. Her love for learning, dancing, great cupcakes, her family, and our school are just a few characteristics that make Mrs. Clugston a huge blessing to Birch Elementary. It was an honor to celebrate her for Assistant Principals’ Week!

Her professor at LeTourneau University says, "She really stands out above all the interns I've ever had. She's really got something special!" We are so proud of her and all her accomplishments this year. Her students know that she believes in them and loves them!".
EXCEL
This month ExCEL High School would like to recognize our Student of the Month, Landon Hamilton. Landon is a sophomore and has gotten off to a good start this second semester. He is often here by 8:00 a.m. and is ready to get started on his work. He is very focused once he starts his work and his determination is evident.
He came to ExCEL the second semester from Arizona when his Dad's job led his family to East Texas. Landon chose to enroll at ExCEL rather than the main high school campus because he was familiar with doing work online. While he was in Arizona, he was enrolled in the K-12 program which is an online program so ExCEL was the logical fit for him. He says he likes the students at ExCEL and the ExCEL environment.
Landon describes himself as shy and somewhat introverted. He says until he gets to know someone pretty well and feels comfortable around them they will find that he isn't much of a talker. His main hobby is playing video games.
Landon says he isn't particularly looking to finish high school early but if it happens it happens. After graduation he wants to attend college to become an accountant or business owner. As with all our ExCEL students, we wish him success in whatever he does!
HIGH SCHOOL
Testing is here, prom is over and Pine Tree High School is now focused on the end of school, graduation and summer vacation.
Last week, PTHS saw English I and English II STAAR tests in between a day off of school due to a large water line break in Longview. Students finished those exams and are now ready to move on to others in the next couple of weeks. AP exams are also coming up in the next few weeks for those who are taking those courses, so students are not letting up on the studying with these important tests to take.
Prom was held at Pinecrest Country Club recently and was very successful. Students showed up, danced the night away and had a good time at after prom as well.
Now, seniors can look forward to finishing classwork, going to senior breakfast, senior walk, senior picnic and then, finally, on May 26 crossing that graduation stage and beginning a new chapter of their lives.
The winners of Mr. and Miss PTHS were announced at prom. Joseph Cordova was named Mr. PTHS and Krishna Lara Garcia was named Miss PTHS. These two were also Homecoming royalty in the fall. Cordova and Abby Short were named Most Likely to Succeed by PTHS for the year.
For others, UIL Academics had 20 people medal in district and many are moving on to Regionals. Marshall Daugbjerg is moving on to golf regionals after qualifying at the district tournament at The Tempest recently, and choir had an outstanding time at a recent competition to score all ones and be named the best choir in attendance.
In sports, baseball and softball are still working on playoff runs, while track has district this week and hopes to advance a large number of people to area and regionals. The junior varsity girls track team won district last week and has given a lot of hope to the varsity runners.
The BUC the Bully anti-bullying program has been successful this year and has hosted a number of events at PTHS and other campuses as well. The BUCS are gearing up for
Anti-Bullying Day in May and will then begin planning events for the next school year. Be ready on all campuses for this program to really kick in this fall.
Yearbooks have been shipped to the plant for printing and will return on May 7. It is important to purchase a yearbook now before the 200 that are printed are gone. See Greg Collins in Room 612 to purchase a book with cash or check, or go on the front of the PTHS website and click on the button that says buy a yearbook to purchase a book with a credit or debit card.
Pine Tree High School Choir Pop Show is May 7, while a dodgeball tournament hosted by Leadership is set for May 3 for all to enjoy. Students will also be working field days this week to assist lower campuses, and a lot of students will be at the stadium on April 23 to help with Special Olympics.
Spring is here, the weather is getting warmer and people are starting to get excited about the end of school and summer vacation. But, here at Pine Tree High School, there is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of things to accomplish before the end of May.
