Principal News
Dear Reptile Families,
It's hard to believe we have already made it through the first month of school. It seems like yesterday we were planning for the upcoming year. We have seen such wonderful things happening during the first month. Many students have developed wonderful relationships with their classmates and teachers. The first part of the year has a great focus on setting up expectations. Our school-wide expectations are Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. During this month we will have our first Early Release Day. Please plan for your child to be released 2 hours earlier. We enjoyed seeing many of you at Open House, PTO General Assembly, and Title I Parent Meeting. The book fair last month was great success. Thank you for supporting our school and READING.
Thank you,
Colleen Wilkinson

It is important that parents acknowledge and declare in writing whether they want their student to participate in various educational opportunities and related activities, and whether their students may be provided healthcare and other services available to them.
You can find more information about the Parent Bill of Rights and the Parent Portal at the following website: https://www.pasco.k12.fl.us/oll_documents/parent-bill-of-rights.If you need help creating or logging in to your account, please call our front office at 813-346-0500 or call Allison Trimble at atrimble@pasco.k12.fl.us.

NOTIFICATION OF INSPECTION FOR ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule, 40 CFR Part 763, Asbestos Containing Material in schools, commonly referred to as AHERA. This rule requires all Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) to identify asbestos containing materials (ACM) in their school buildings and to take appropriate actions to control the release of asbestos fibers.
All inspections for New River Elementary School have been completed and a Management Plan describing the results of the inspection and the action plan to control any asbestos found during the inspection, where applicable, has been submitted to the governor for approval. A copy of this plan is located in the administrative office of this school and at the Pasco County Schools Maintenance & Facility Services Department and is available for review upon request.
P.E. News
Welcome Back! We are very excited about everything we have planned for this year. Our goal is fitness and fun!! Please help your child remember to wear the correct shoes on PE days (slides are not safe).
Our Reptiles have started running Reptile Run. They are working toward goals to earn toe tokens and a t-shirt by May. Students are running during PE class one week each month. After the first three miles, a chain and toe token are given. Toe tokens are earned every three miles, but each student only gets one chain and adds toe tokens to it as they are earned. By May, t-shirts are given to students who run at least twenty miles (K/1) or 25 miles (2-5), a large toe token is given to the boy and girl leaders in each class and trophies are given to the boy and girl leaders in each grade level. Last year we had over 250 students earn t-shirts!
As you may have heard, Fun Run Club starts October 3rd for 2-5 grade students. We will be running Monday mornings at 9:30 AM. Space will be limited so return the form quickly when you receive it in your child’s communication folder.
We are looking forward to a great year!!!
Art News
Welcome back Reptiles. I am excited to start this new school year by teaching expectations and rules in the art room. Students have also started to design their art folder in which they will keep all their artwork for the year. Students have also created a name tag using crayons, markers and sharpies to design their names using block or bubble letters. We are also starting our unit for the element of art Line, and are practicing the different kinds of lines using crayons and markers. Some students have created real pictures while others are making imaginary drawings while using lines.
We look forward to a wonderful art year full of amazing art creations! Thank you all for your support.
