The Hoot Owl
FEBRUARY
NOTES FOR THE MONTH:
Can you believe it is February? The month of love. How can you show kindness/love to others around you? Make a plan with your child to show kindness and love to those around you. Please feel free to share you stories with us on our Facebook page post.
Just a reminder that our doors open at 7:35 a.m. Staff is on duty to assist with the car rider line until 8:01 a.m. One staff member will remain on the front porch until the majority of the cars have cleared or until 8:05 a.m. Once the staff member has left the porch, parents are asked to park and walk your child to the front door.
Our visiting author will be here on February 5. If you placed an order for an autographed copy of a book, your child will receive the book that day.
February 14 is Donuts with Dad. This will begin at 7:00 and end at 7:45. If you are an early bird Dad, students will be dropped off in the gym starting at approximately 7:15. At 7:35, students will be dismissed to their classrooms. If Dad is unable to attend, one other important adult is welcome to accompany the child.
February 17 is a student and staff holiday.
February 21 is Go Texan Day. Students are invited to wear their western clothing to school. Remember to leave your spurs, toy guns, and horses at that "ranch." Western hats are appropriate this day.
February 28 is Spring Fling pictures. Information regarding these will come home middle of the month so be watching for it.
If you need to pick up your child early from school, you must be at the school no later than 2:45 p.m. We will not pull a child to leave until you arrive. Emergency transportation changes can be taken by phone until 2:30 p.m. Daily changes need to be done using a note sent to the teacher.
Medications must be hand delivered and signed in to the nurse. Do not send medication to the nurse via your child.
With the weather turning colder (or so we hope), please make sure and label all jackets with your child's name. We make a great donation yearly to the clothing bank because we have jackets no one claims.

Sleep
Did you know that children ages 5-12 need 10 or 11 hours of sleep a night? If you don’t get enough sleep your brain doesn’t function normally, you can have a difficult time performing usually easy tasks, and your immune system can even be affected! There is no better time than flu season to keep your body healthy! The following are some tips to help make sure you and your child are getting enough sleep.
· Try to go to bed at the same time every night.
· Follow a bed time routine that helps your body relax and get ready for sleep.
· Limit sugary foods and drinks with caffeine, especially in the evening time.
· Don’t have a TV in the bedroom. If you do turn it off when it’s bedtime.
Let’s make sure all of our Owls are bright-eyed, healthy, and ready to learn!

Transportation
MORNING
*Parents are encouraged to go through the car rider line instead of parking and walking students in. If you choose to park, you must walk them to the door. The parking lot is not a drop off location.
*Remember that you are in a school zone in our driveway and therefore, it is against the law to be on your cell phone. Take this time to wish your child a good day.
*If you arrive and there is already a line formed, but a space between cars, please do not cut into that space. Typically spaces are left for parking spaces or the back parking lot access.
AFTERNOON
*To enter the car rider line from the feeder road, you need to go to Oak Ridge School Road, turn right and enter that direction.
*Parents may not park and walk up to get their child. You must remain in the car rider line in order to pick up your child.
*Again, remember this is a school zone and cell phone use is prohibited.
*If you arrive and there is already a line formed, but a space between cars, please do not cut into that space. Typically spaces are left for parking spaces or the back parking lot access.
