Gotta know it...
- Thanks for completing your Growth Plan. I'll begin meeting with you this week to complete your beginning of the year self-assessment.
- A HUGE shout-out to Amanda who created QR codes and student names for all the car pick-up kids. Our parents were excited and the pick-up time is going quickly. Thanks Amanda!
- As you are supervising recess you need to be with the kids, in different areas of the recess yard.
- When taking your class to specials, if a student is not with the class because they are in the nurses office, bathroom, or still in the classroom, you must let the specials teacher know so they can watch for them to return to class.
BOY Asssessments
- Plan to complete all BOY testing this week and have your reading groups started on Tuesday, September 8th. One of the main purposes of BOY testing is for you to see strategies students have and don't have so it's a great benefit for you to do most of your BOY assessments.
- DRA/BENCHMARK KITS: Our reading assessment kits are missing books. I know we don't have enough kits and we plan to order more, but please DO NOT take these kits apart. All books should be left in the DRA/Benchmark box and the entire box is passed from teacher to teacher.
WHAT IS GRIT?
How Children Succeed
This past summer I read a book by Paul Tough entitled, How Children Succeed. An extensive research found a set of strengths many high achieving people possess which are likely to predict life satisfaction. These strengths are often lacking in poverty homes and keep kids from completing college or other career goals.
This year we will highlight one strength each month at our Panther PRIDE Celebration. As we teach our kids about these strengths, they will be understood and applied when talked about in the classroom, at specials, during recess, and at lunchtime. The strengths and monthly focuses are:
September: GRIT
October: SELF-CONTROL
November: GRATITUDE
January: SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE
February: OPTIMISM
March: CURIOSITY
April: Review all strengths
