PK3.3 News -
23rd - 27th May 2016
This week we have been recapping on some of the many skills we have been building here in PK3. On Monday we began our day suggesting lots of words that have "M" in them. the children then identified the M by drawing a circle around it. We did this activity again on Friday for the letter F. There was much excitement as we now have a big whiteboard to use at circle time so I had many volunteers! Don't forget to keep asking your children what letters they can find when you are out and about.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
Ms Jeanette
Happy 4th Birthday Nahuel!
In small groups this week we have been :
- identifying animals and their habitats. Does the penguin really live in the grassy lands or did Ms Jeanette mix him up with the cow?! The children did a wonderful job identifying many different animals and working out what type of habitat they came from by identifying some of their features such as fins, feathers and fur.
graphing animals by the number of legs they have.
- practicing scissor skills as we cut straight, curved and angled lines. This activity strengthens fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and visual tracking as the children progressed along the lines.
- identifying Uppercase letters and building them with straight and curved lines.
- identifying and extending patterns. This is a simple activity you can set up at home using legos, beads or buttons for example. You can start a 2 or 3 color pattern and ask the children to extend it for you. As they become more confident they will begin making patterns of their own. You can even make patterns using your bodies; clap, clap, stomp or jump, hop, jump. This is a favorite game of ours during circle time.
- reading Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. Baby Monkey has lost him Mom and wants to find her. He meets lots of characters along the way, describing his Mom to each of them until eventually.............
Using animal props the children were able to retell the story to each other; following the story sequence and identifying each animal the baby Monkey came across along the way.
IN THE GARDEN
All this rain is making our garden grow! Ms Elsa helped the children to harvest some of the ripe peppers. After a light watering and a check for weeds the children enjoyed time at the water tables. Blowing bubbles was the favorite :)
IN THE LIBRARY
The Napping House by Audrey Wood
The Napping House starts on a rainy night with a house, which has a cozy bed in it where granny is sleeping. The bed is so cozy everyone wants to sleep in it! Soon granny is joined by a dreaming child, a dozing dog and snoozing cat. One by one they all pile on top UNTIL.....the wakeful flee arrives.
We also spent quiet time together sharing stories of princesses and frogs, race cars and jungles, adventures and we even found a puzzle to do together in one book.
