Teachers Need to Eat Too
This week we welcomed Lois Stewart, Missions Facilitator at the Northern Illinois District, as our guest speaker for chapel. She began her message by asking the students if they were ever surprised to see a teacher at the grocery store or a restaurant. Some replied, "Yes." Lois said that sometimes the students may think that teachers live at school and it is strange to see the teacher outside of school, such as in a restaurant. Lois reminded them that teachers need to eat, too, just like the students need to eat. Lois then posed another question, "How would you like to eat only candy and ice cream?" A few students raised their hands. Then she asked, "How would you like to eat only your favorite food every day for all your meals and snacks?" Several students said they would not. It would be boring, or we may get tired of eating it all day, every day.
We need to eat food to grow strong. There is also something else we need to eat which helps us grow strong in our faith. That is God's word. We are reminded in Matthew 4:4 "Man shall not live by bread alone." In John 6:35 Jesus said, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." Lois reminded us that we need to feed on God's Word everyday so that we may grow strong in our faith. The teachers have to feed on God's Word everyday so they can teach the students. Parents choose to send their child to St. Philip to grow in faith. Everything the teachers do is surrounded in God's Word to share Christ with the students and families. May each of us feed on God's Word daily as we all need to 'eat' too!

A message from our Admissions and Marketing Coordinator - Miss Livas
Hello Everybody!
Continuous enrollment for the 23/24 school year begins today. As an existing family, your enrollment will be "rolled over" for the new school year and there is nothing further you need to do. Your registration fee, which holds your child's spot, will be automatically applied to your FACTS account in early April.
Last year, we implemented Variable Tuition. Families will have the option to pay our set tuition rates or apply for our new Variable Tuition program. This program replaces our financial aid and matches your tuition rate to your family's unique financial position. Information on Variable Tuition can be found here.
In addition to thinking ahead to 23/24. Do you know a family or friend who is looking for a change in 2023? They don't need to wait until next August to join the St. Philip family...in most cases, new students can start with us throughout the year!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Jessica Livas

Celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week
Next week we look forward to National Lutheran Schools Week celebration. Did you know there are over 1,850 Lutheran schools national wide? We give thanks for the gift of St. Philip Lutheran School and the opportunity to serve our students, families, and the community at large.
"Making Disciples for Life" is the theme. It is inspired by Matthew 28:18-20: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." St. Philip will celebrate with special dress up days, all school devotions, and activities throughout the week. You're invited to join us at the end of the week to cheer on the staff and middle school students in their Staff vs. Middle School Volleyball game. It will be held on Friday, January 27 at 2:15 p.m. in the gym.
Chapel Offering Recipient:
We gather each week for Chapel. During this time, a leader shares a message based on a Bible reading. Our chapel service also includes collecting an offering. The offerings will be given to various organizations throughout the year. This quarter we will be donating our offering to A Safe Haven. This organization, located in Chicago, helps people transition their lives as they move from homelessness to self-sufficiency. In addition to our monetary offering, we are also collecting new and gently used full size blankets and diapers. This was our last week to collect offerings for A Safe Haven. Our monetary goal was $400.00. THANK YOU FOR HELPING US SURPASS OUR GOAL!!!
Total to date: $749.95
FUNDrive
Now is a great time to clean out your closets and cupboards and get rid of items you no longer need. You will have less clutter and help St. Philip raise money in the process. Earlier this week we sent home large bags with our students to collect clothing and household textiles. We are also collecting household items in boxes such as kitchen items, toys, knickknacks, etc. Items must be clean and in sellable condition. Monies raised will be split between our playground fundraising and the 7th/8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. Drop off your items at St. Philip. Please do not drop them in the clothing bin in our parking lot. Help us raise even more money by having your family and friends participate. Spread the word!
Let Us Pray For You
Each morning our staff gathers for devotions. As part of our devotion time, we pray for others. We encourage you to add the following petitions to your prayer time:
- We pray for continued healing and strength for Tucker's Nana B. as she continues her recovery at home.
- We pray for peace and comfort to the family of CLEF's Nurse Pat, whose mother passed away.
- We pray for Mrs. Kim's husband's cousin, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
- We pray for all those affected by illness. We pray for Miss Joseph's mother, and Hazel's grandmas.
- We ask God to give strength to all those struggling with cancer, especially for Mrs. Kang’s mom, Mr. Kutz’s friend, Kay, and Mrs. Tennis' aunt Helen.
- We pray for health and safety among our students, families, and staff.
- We ask God to bless our chapel offering recipient, A Safe Haven. May our gifts provide help and support to those displaced from their homes.
Registration Closes Monday!
