The Weekly Update #4
January 9th, 2024
Mr. Glover's Weekly Update
Good afternoon, Raider Families,
I hope that you are enjoying what for most of us will be an extended weekend as we honor and celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on his birthday. This is the day we acknowledge the tremendous effort that Dr. King was able to orchestrate in the pursuit of equality for all people in this country and around the world. Many of our teachers have shared lessons and stories about this extraordinary person and the causes that he and many others championed during the civil rights movement of the 1950’s and 60’s. One of Dr. King’s greatest moments was during the momentous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28th, 1963. As the representative and founder of the SCLC, King was the leading member of what is known as the “Big Six” civil rights organizations that were a part of the March. This groundbreaking event was the major force in the movement of the nation to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964. With over 250,000 participants taking to the streets of the Capital in what would historically become the nation’s largest political rally for human rights. BMMS joins the world in celebrating the accomplishments of the wonderful human being.
Everyone, please enjoy the festivities and celebrations and we will see you all on Tuesday.
ASES Charity BB Game - Love on a Leash
Thank you to everyone who attended the ASES Charity Basketball Game on Friday. It was a fantastic event that was filled with so many examples of the wonderful activities that our students are able to experience, including our very own Raiders Basketball team in competition against Oak Valley. It was a wonderful showcase by everyone including the Raiders cheerleaders, color guard, garden club members, and the athletes from both teams. The entire fundraiser went to support the Love on a Leash program and the event was able to raise a total amount of $765.50 that will go to support this fantastic organization. This was an incredible effort by our community to support a wonderful group, but more significantly, this is a testament to the tremendous blessing that the ASES program is to our school. None of this is possible without the hard work and dedication from all of the team members within the BMMS ASES Program.
A huge thank you to Mr. Jireh and the entire ASES team for facilitating the great event for our community. We are truly grateful for all that you do to support our students and community each day.
Raiders Cheerleader Perform at the 42nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
Our BMMS Cheerleaders joined the city of San Diego and the world in celebration of Dr. King during the 42nd Annual Martin Luther King Parade in Downtown San Diego. Cheer Coach: Mrs. Robinson and the team joined High School Bands, Drill Teams, local colleges and universities, fraternities, sororities, faith, Peace and Youth organizations around the city to honor Dr. King. They received 2nd place in the Educational Unit Category.
We want to thank all of the families, educators, and students who were out this morning to represent Black Mountain Middle School for the special event. Go Raiders!!

Attendance Information - Tardy & Early Release
Attendance is the #1 school success factor. Make sure your child is in school, on time, every day.
Tardy at start of school day frequently arriving late to school means your child loses valuable instructional time and this will negatively impact their learning experience. Please support your child and our school by ensuring your child promptly arrives at school. Students arriving late to school must report to the Attendance Office with a medical excusal note or phone call from a parent or guardian explaining the reason for arriving late. These notes are to be taken to the Attendance Office, NOT to the first period teacher. Parents may excuse up to 3 tardies per semester.
Early Release If you need to pick your child up before the end of the regular school day, please call at least 2 hours prior to pick up specifying the time you will pick them up so we can have them in the office waiting for you. This will prevent delays for you (such as trying to find your child while he/she is running in PE) and will help minimize interruptions to the classroom.
Daily Attendance: When your child is absent from school, by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the absence, please call our Attendance Hotline at (858) 484-1300, option 1. This call must be made by a parent or legal guardian. Per district policy, 10% of days in attendance, or 12 absences, within a school year is considered “excessive”. If it is suggested by a physician that your child stay home from school due to illness, please obtain a medical note from your doctor. It is recommended that all medical notes be submitted to our Attendance Clerk within 5 days upon your child’s return to school. All absences are to be cleared within 72 hrs.
