Principal's Corner

Good Afternoon LS-H Middle/High School Families,

We have had an outstanding start to the 2021-2022 school at Le Sueur-Henderson Middle/High School. We have focused on building the relationships and routines necessary for all of our students to be successful during the first two weeks of school. During our grade level meetings, Mr. Christ and I have reinforced the importance of choosing to persevere when our students are faced with difficult content or mistakes they have made. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting each one of our students to achieve more than they believe is possible each and every day.

Please monitor your family's health on a daily basis, get tested for COVID-19 when needed, and wear masks as needed to support the health of our school as a whole. Our guidance counselors are available for student support services, classroom teachers are available for course specific questions, and our office staff can answer general questions or help connect you with the appropriate staff member at LS-H Middle/High School. We love to hear from you, so don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Go Giants!

LSH Middle/High School Student Handbook

Our 2021-2022 Student Handbook contains a wealth of information regarding the guidelines and procedures used at LSH Middle/HIgh School. I encourage each family to review the handbook in detail at the beginning of each school year. We have provided an overview of the handbook to our students during grade level meetings yesterday and today. Please contact Brian Thorstad (bthorstad@isd2397.org) or Jeff Christ (jchrist@isd2397.org) if you have any questions about our student handbook.

LSH School Opening Plan

I encourage all families to review the LSH School Opening Plan for information about our current COVID-19 protocols. These plans will be reevaluated and updated as needed throughout the year to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff. Please contact Molly Thelemann (mthelemann@isd2397.org), LSH District Nurse, with any questions about our School Opening Plan.

Middle School NWEA Assessments

Our 6-8th grade students have been taking the NWEA reading and math assessments during WIN classes this week. NWEA assessments provide a snapshot of each student's academic achievement in the areas of math and reading. The information collected from these assessments will be used by our teachers to personalize the education of each one of our students and help maximize their growth this year. Please contact LS-H Curriculum Coordinator, Teri Burdorf (tburdorf@isd2397.org), if you have any questions about the NWEA assessments.

Advisory @ LSH MS/HS

All students will participate in Advisory from 8:10-8:30 on Friday mornings. Advisory will provide an opportunity to support a positive school culture, foster healthy peer relationships, connect each of our students with a trusted adult, engage with our 7 Mindsets social/emotional learning curriculum, and provide academic support.

All students will be emailing their current grades to their parent/guardians(s) and advisor on a biweekly basis to maintain open communication about their academic progress this year. Please feel free to contact your child's advisor should you have any questions.

Relearning Opportunities

At Le Sueur-Henderson Middle/High School, we believe all students should have the opportunity to make mistakes and demonstrate growth throughout the learning process. Our goal is that all students demonstrate mastery of our essential content area standards. As a result, reassessment opportunities will be provided to all students on summative assessments this year. Students are expected to work with their teacher to develop a relearning plan that must be completed prior to a reassessment opportunity being provided. Reassessment scores will replace the initial summative assessment score.

Please encourage your child to discuss a relearning plan with their teacher if they do not understand a concept. We believe all students are capable of mastering content area standards and encourage them to persevere when a concept is not understood on their first attempt.

2020-2021 LSH High School Yearbooks

2020-2021 High School Yearbooks are available to be picked up from Mr. Polson's classroom. Please see Mr. Polson with any questions about LSH Yearbooks.

Student Parking

Parking permits were established at LS-H High School in 2019, but were not used during the 2020-2021 school year due to multiple learning scenarios. This year, all students who wish to park at LS-H High School will need to obtain a parking permit from the office. Student parking will not be assigned and will be on a first come, first choice basis each day. Students will need to complete a parking permit registration form (located on the LSH Middle/High School website) and submit payment online or to the Le Sueur-Henderson High School Office. The cost for a parking pass will be as follows:

  • Permits purchased between August 2021 - Nov. 5, 2021 - $70.00

  • Permits purchased between Nov. 8, 2021 - Jan. 28, 2022 - $52.50

  • Permits purchased between Jan. 31 - April 1, 2022 - $35.00

  • Permits purchased between April 4 - June 3, 2022 - $17.50

Upon receipt of payment and registration, each student will receive a parking permit allowing them to park in the North or West parking lots at LS-H High School. Students are not allowed to park in the school bus lot and faculty lot off of Ferry Street from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Parking lots will be randomly checked for vehicles that do not have permits as well as cars parked in nonstudent locations. Vehicles parked on school grounds without the proper permit or parked in non-student locations will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Student Absences

Please remember to contact the MS/HS Office if your child has an appointment, is ill, or will be absent for another reason. We understand that it is convenient for parents and students to text message one another to communicate about a wide range of issues. For the safety of all students, we thank you in advance for notifying the office regarding all school absences.
