From Mrs. Meloni's First Grade Classroom...
The PS I Love You mission is to spread love in order to decrease bullying and promote mental health awareness. First graders in Mrs. Meloni’s class spend time fostering kindness and a welcoming environment, through their words and their actions. Each child has a keepsake #spreadkindness poster to treasure, in which each of their classmates has written a kind and adorning message about him or her.
From Mrs. DuMoulin's Third Grade Classroom...
Students in Mrs. DuMoulin’s class have been actively reading Nonfiction books. They are sharing what they are learning with their peers, exploring text features, and finding the main idea or central message in the text. Cameron expressed that “Reading nonfiction is really cool because I get to learn about things that I never knew before!”
After many opportunities to practice this concept, the students created a main idea project to showcase their skills. Emily added, “When we started finding the main idea, it was tricky, but now I got the hang of it!”
This nonfiction unit has truly sparked an interest in the students, and they are eager to continue reading more books from this genre.
From Ms. Galvin's Third Grade...
Third grade detectives in Miss Galvin’s class loved exploring the world of mystery books. They had a variety of adventures with the detectives from their stories in which they needed to determine what the mystery is and who the suspects are. These detectives learned not to let the red-herrings get in their way of solving their mysteries.
This group of inquisitive detectives collaborated together to create a Google Slide presentation “Mystery Book Commercials” of their favorite books they read this year. I’m sure there will be many more mysteries for them to solve in the future.
From Fifth Grade...
The fifth grade students completed a STEM challenge during the ecosystem unit. The children were tasked with creating a self-watering device that would keep a plant healthy for at least 10 days. The students worked in teams to design a prototype and then test it. The teams were given an opportunity to revise their devices and analyze the results of their designs. Many of the children learned how challenging it can be to take a design on paper and turn it into a well functioning apparatus.
From the Lincoln Avenue Gymnasium...
The circus is in town!!
Circus arts are a fantastic opportunity for our students to try something new and exciting. There are so many skills incorporated within a circus act that we tend to oversee. Coordination, balance, rhythm, power and control are only some of the skills needed to be part of the circus. We have integrated these skills into this unit and the students have been working so hard to better their skills. Although the circus has individual acts, its takes the entire circus team to put on such a fantastic production. I highly recommend…if the circus is in town…go! If the circus is not, create one with your friends and family. Juggling, plate spinning, feather balancing, flower sticks, hula hoops and clowning around are only some things you can add to your circus. Which one is your favorite? Creating something together and making it your own is so gratifying and I truly believe you will have a great time doing so. There is a reason why they say, it’s the greatest show on earth!!

Mindful Moments
Family Connect Nights
Please mark the following dates as "Family Connect Nights". We believe that family unity is vital to the foundation of Lincoln Avenue Elementary School. Quality family time that is uninterrupted is essential to keeping families close. Research has shown that reinforcing relationships and seizing and savoring moments of connection benefit the well-being of both parents and children.
To encourage and support this important goal, we plan to designate one night of every month for the remainder of the school year as “Family Connect Night.” We understand that there are often events or activities that follow a specific weekday schedule. With a rotation of days, we are hopeful that all families have many opportunities to participate. No academic homework will be assigned to students on these nights with the hopes that your family will spend time together with a preferred activity! This year, six of the nights will be district wide “Family Connect Nights”.
