5th Grade News

Week of Oct. 26-30

Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Riddle and Mrs. Waggoner's Weekly Newsletter! Here, you will find our learning targets for the week, along with upcoming events/reminders.

Learning Targets

English Language Arts - We will be working on fact and opinion. Also, students will continue working on reading grade level text with accuracy and fluency.

** Each week, students must complete two Achieve 3000 articles. Articles are based on content covered in science and social studies. One article may be completed at home. Students are given time during our reading rotations to complete the articles.

Writing - Students are working on narrative drafts. We are in the editing and revising stage of writing. This is our first published story this year, so by the middle of next week - I hope to wrap things up and move to our next piece of writing.

Social Studies - Last week, our students did a GREAT job coming up with school-related "grievances". This week, we will begin our study of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution

Math - Students will continue working on large number multiplication and long division. We will be moving on to order of operations.

Please, encourage your children to practice their math facts EVERY DAY. Even if it is only for a few minutes. Also, MobyMax login and password information can be found in your child's B.E.E. Binder.

Science - Ecosystem vocabulary - limiting factor, carrying capacity, symbiosis, mutualism, commensalism and parasitism.
