Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium Climate Survey
Dear Parents and Families,
As you have been reading in previous correspondences, Scarborough Public Schools is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity at all levels. Two new components of this work include the creation of a District DEI Steering Committee and the formulation of a partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium.
The next key early action step involves gathering feedback from stakeholders, including students, staff, families and the larger community. If you have not already done so, Please endorse this work by taking a few minutes to complete this Parent/Community Climate Survey designed by the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, the link to which is here. Surveys will be open until February 5. We understand that everyone’s time is valuable, and thank you in advance for taking the time to share your experiences and perspectives
On Wednesday, February 3 during their morning meeting, Wentworth students will be taking part in the Elementary School Student Climate Survey. This survey is designed by the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium specifically for elementary school aged students. There are five categories of questions, included below in bold, and a sample of the types of questions in that category included below in italics.
academic expectations: my teachers want me to do my best
safety and respect: safety rules are followed at my school
communication and engagement: I know who I can go to when I need help
attitude and culture: students in my school feel like they belong here
discipline/bullying/discrimination: my school has clear and fair rules for behavior
All results will be anonymous. Our students' feedback will be critical in assisting the DEI Steering Committee in the development of a long term action plan for Scarborough Public Schools.
If you do not wish your child to take the survey, please contact the school office at wsoffice@scarboroughschools.org. If we do not hear from you, your consent to your child’s participation is assumed.
Respectfully,
Kelli Crosby
Principal
