Spring Field Trip

This spring we will travel to Des Moines to visit Terrace Hill (the governor's mansion) and then to the Science Center of Iowa.


When: March 13, 2020. We will meet in the parking lot behind the public library. The bus will be located on Madison Street along the road north of the parking lot. We will load the bus at 7:30 a.m.and depart by 7:45 a.m. We plan to return by 6:30 p.m.

Who: All HSAP students and their parent(s) are invited to attend! Younger siblings may travel with us as well.

Itinerary:

7:45 - Leave Mt. Pleasant

10:30 - Tour Terrace Hill

11:30 - Depart Terrace Hill

12:00 - Eat lunch at the Science Center of Iowa (bring a sack lunch)

12:30 - Enjoy the Science Center!

1:00 - 1:20 - Fire and Ice Presentation in the Adventure Theater

3:45 - Load bus and depart the Science Center

6:15 - Arrive home

Kindergarten Activity

Join us for the final two Kindergarten Activities of the year! Marcee Reno will lead the kindergarteners on March 5th and April 9th. They will make a simple city map on March 5th and learn about plant parts on April 9th.

Bowling

March is the month to go bowling! March 3, 24, and 31 are bowling Tuesdays. The students in the HSAP are invited to go bowling at 1:00 at Iris Bowling Lanes in Mt. Pleasant. The HSAP will cover the cost of one game and shoes for each HSAP student. Other children and parents are $5 per person per game and shoes are free. You are invited to attend all three weeks or whichever weeks fit into your schedule. Come when you can and enjoy the game!

NOTE: this year the bowling alley is only open three Tuesday afternoons in March.

ISASP

ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) will be administered between March 23 and April 10. The HSAP office will be contacting those of you who are participating to let you know the schedule. We will also offer a session to introduce or review the technology knowledge needed for the assessment. More information and exact dates coming in early March!



  • Tests will be administered to 3rd - 11th grade students.
  • All students in grade 3 - 11 will take a reading, language and writing and a math assessment.
  • Fifth, 8th and 10th grade students will take the science assessment in addition to the other assessments.
  • The assessments will be administered using a computer.
  • The writing portion will be paper/pencil for 3rd - 5th grade students.
  • Tests are not timed, although they suggest a 60 minute time frame for each test except language and writing which suggests 120 minutes.
  • Our office will be sharing a website with information, including a test prep link.

Curriculum Requests

Your 4th quarter visit will be held in the HSAP classroom. During this visit, you will be asked to sign up for curriculum you would like for next year. Visits will be between March 30 and April 17. Your supervising teacher will contact you with the day and time for your visit.

Spring Enrichment Session

Spring enrichment classes are just around the corner! The six-week session will begin on March 5th and conclude on April 9th. During this session, the 5th grade students will join the 6th - 8th grade students for PE class and the content class and they will no longer have music class.

College and Career Ready (CCR)

Parents of 11th and 12th grade students are invited to attend a CCR meeting with the HSAP teachers on March 23 at 1:00 at the HSAP classroom. Topics of discussion will be:

- Testing

- Taking college courses in high school

- College entrance requirements

- Post secondary training options: Certificates, Apprenticeships, Diplomas

- Gap year
