8th Grade Academic Excellence Rescheduled
Due to unfavorable weather conditions, we have rescheduled our Academic Excellence event for Tuesday, June 1. We want to honor and celebrate students as best we can; our photo booth, as well as outdoor interactions with staff, are important components that were compromised by rain.
You can arrive anytime between 6 and 7:30pm. You will come in on Edgewood Drive in the horseshoe loop, get a program, and proceed down the road where your child will receive their certificate(s), a car bumper sticker, and a treat for all At the fork in the loop, you can then either go to the left to leave or go right, park, and take a picture at the photo op area. There will be EW staff to direct you once you enter the front loop. We will also be practicing social distancing in the photo op area.

Eighth Grade In-Person Celebration
The eighth grade in-person year-end celebration will be on Friday, June 4. The day will be filled with connecting with one another, fun activities, a picnic lunch, a talent show, and yearbook signing. We will not be providing online learning this day. Bussing will be set up for your child if they normally ride the bus to and from school. If your child will not be attending, please call the attendance office (651-621-6601) to report your child’s absence.
Below is the schedule for the day. Activities are still being discussed; however, students will sign up for their preferred activity sessions on Wednesday, June 2, or Thursday, June 3, in their Science classes.
Breakfast/Yearbooks - 7:15-8:15
Talent Show - 8:15-9:00
Activity Session - 9:00-10:30
Activity Session - 10:30-12:00
Outdoor Picnic Lunch - 12:00-1:00
Activity Session - 1:00-2:15
There will also be a photo op wall during breakfast/lunch for students to take selfies and signature books for students who didn't purchase a yearbook. However, there will be extra yearbooks available for eighth graders to purchase in the cafeteria the morning of June 4.
Distance teachers are also planning a virtual celebration day this day for all grades as well. The teachers will be hosting a variety of activity sessions from 9:00am - 11:00am. These activities can be found on their Google calendar. There will also be grade level lunches from 11:00am - 11:30am. Distance students are also welcome to purchase a yearbook if they haven't ordered one online. Please see the information below regarding yearbook sales.

Yearbook Sales & Distribution
Extra copies of the Edgewood yearbook are available to purchase for $20. If you are interested in purchasing one, please contact Shannon at email@example.com or bring $20 (cash or checks made out to Edgewood Middle School) to the front office to secure your copy to be handed out at the end of the school year.
Please note: In-person eighth graders will receive their yearbooks on June 4, in-person sixth & seventh graders will receive their yearbooks when they turn in their Chromebooks on Wednesday, June 9, and distance students will receive their yearbooks when they turn in their Chromebooks on Friday, June 11, or Monday, June 14.
Mark Your Calendars!
Please note that all in-person students will be turning in their Chromebooks and chargers to their teachers during Period 7 on Wednesday, June 9. Please be sure they have all items with them when they come to school that day. Distance learners will turn in their Chromebooks on either Friday, June 11, or Monday, June 14. Watch for specific drop-off times in a future e-news edition. We appreciate your help in this matter.
Also, please note that the last day to check out library books is Thursday, May 27. All library and text books are due back by Thursday, June 3.

After-school activities are held from 2:30pm-4:00pm in the below locations through the week of May 24.

EPAT (EW PARENTS AND TEACHERS)
Edgewood Parents & Teachers (EPAT) is an organization in which parents and Edgewood (EW) teachers and administration work together to help meet the needs of the EW students and staff.
As we did not have a fundraiser this year, there are still ways to contribute to EPAT! Our funds help to provide funds to teachers for additional items they would like for their class that are not covered by the school's budget. Some examples of this are tools, books and other various supplies that enhance our students' learning. Our funds also help to provide items for some of our extra-curricular activities. Here are some ways in which you can donate:

Middle School Consent Form for High School Activities
Seventh & eighth grade athletes that wish to participate on a high school team will also register online. Before you begin your online registration, approval must be obtained from the middle school principal or dean, the high school activities director and coach. In addition, signatures from both student & parent/guardian are also required. Please complete this Middle School consent form and deliver to the high school activities office before you begin the online registration.
Masks in School Reminder
According to the Minnesota Department of Education, the Safe Learning Plan remains in effect through the end of the 2020-21 school year. Masks must continue to be worn by everyone inside school buildings or on a school bus.
It is imperative that students continue to wear their masks appropriately (over the mouth/nose) in school at all times and social distance measures must be adhered to during lunch. Parents of students refusing to cooperate will receive a phone call home to come up with a plan for alternative learning. Please follow up with your student on the importance of this issue...we appreciate your help.
If this state guidance changes before the end of the school year, we will update you as soon as possible.

Report Student Absences
In addition to leaving voicemail messages, parents and guardians can now electronically record student absences, including future and/or planned absences. Log into ParentVUE and select “Record absence” next to your child’s name to begin the process. School staff will review new entries daily. Detailed instructions are available here.
2021-22 Calendar Start Date
The 2021-22 school year will begin Wednesday, September 8, due to the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashana. Visit the calendars page at moundsviewschools.org/calendars to see the current calendar and the next two school year calendars.

Community Program Offerings
NEW! Summer Sports and Fitness
Stay active and connected with your friends and other middle schoolers over the summer! Join the middle school summer sports and fitness program and participate in a wide variety of games and activities that may include flag football, tennis, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, basketball, kickball, volleyball, soccer and more! We will also be talking about how active lifestyles and healthy habits are good for the mind and body.
When: Monday-Thursday, 12-2 p.m.
Where: All middle schools
Registration fee: $150 (Free and/or reduced lunch fee: $75)

Full and Half-day Summer Camps
Join us for nine weeks of summer day camps in 2021, including both full-day and half-day options for students entering grades K-7. With new instructors, new topics and one centralized location, students will try new things, meet new people and grow. Camp topics include coding, visual arts, theater, STEM, science, Spanish, sports and more!

Tasteocracy and the clients who work with us value your participation and compensate you for your time and opinions. The amount of compensation is related to the length of the test. Tests that have a longer time commitment have a higher compensation amount. All tests average at $40 per hour of participation.
