Outdoor Ed Canoe Trip 2023 by Emersyn Visser

Last week a group of grade nine students from Lorne Akins embarked on an adventure in the Badlands of Alberta. Twenty-six of us, along with our teachers, participated in the Annual Red Deer River Canoe Trip and it was a journey we will not soon forget. We started off in Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park and canoed and camped to our final destination near Drumheller. This was an opportunity to learn new skills, to get to know each other better and to live in nature. The beautiful surroundings of nature provided a break from the busyness of life. The air felt fresher and the time slowed down, allowing us to appreciate the wonder of the outdoors. We learned many wilderness survival skills and how to appreciate nature. Most of all, we learned not to feed our teachers to many Fibre 1 bars. It was a very fun experience that we all enjoyed.
