Take a moment and reflect...

Since we just finished the 2nd nine weeks, it is a good time to reflect back on what all your child has accomplished while at WvES. Remember that the transition to 2nd grade can be difficult as students move from having a full-time assistant in the classroom to having only one adult with limited instructional support. Third grade students were introduced to standardized testing for the first time this year through the Beginning of Grade Reading test. Fourth grade students are required to extend their thinking on a global stage and apply skills in a variety of settings. Each grade presents unique challenges and each educator in this building works hard to meet students where they are and help challenge them to reach the next level.

We appreciate your partnership in our efforts. Thank you for your support, communication and dedication to your child's learning. Together we can achieve great things!

Make-Up Day Survey - Please complete!

You're invited to complete a brief make-up day survey. BCS administrators will use your input to identify strategies to meet the North Carolina calendar and instructional time requirements.

You are encouraged to share your preferences and thoughts with us.

The survey is located on the BCS homepage, www.buncombeschools.org.

You may also access the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2018MakeUpDays

Please note, the survey will be open until Monday, February 5, at midnight.

If you have a student in 2nd or 3rd grade, then you are aware that the rotation for Special Classes changed back in the Fall due to state guidelines involving class size restrictions. We are very excited to announce that Buncombe County Schools applied for a waiver from these requirements and we recently learned the waiver was approved for the remainder of this school year! We are very excited because this will allow us to return to our five day rotation and split one class to join the other classes! Starting on Monday, February 12, our 2nd and 3rd grade classes will go back to their regularly scheduled specials that they had at the beginning of the year. Your child's teacher will send a reminder of your assigned days. Thank you for your patience as we worked to meet state requirements and guidelines for class size. Remember this waiver is for this school year only. We do not know how our special classes will be impacted next school year.

If you are interested in this topic and how it will impact our schools next year, you are encouraged to follow our lawmakers while they are session this Spring.

Parents: Please remember that parent pickup outside the gym door in the afternoon is for families who WALK off our campus. If you need to skip the car rider line due a medical appointment, then you need to check your child out at the main office. Thanks for following school procedures so we can keep our students safe!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Goodwill Drive!

WvES collected 3345 pounds of donated items, to help those in need within our community! We are so grateful…your effort and support are so appreciated – thanks again!

Goodwill estimates that 24 pounds of donations allows them to serve 1 individual through our mission work. Because of your recent efforts, over 130 individuals will be served by one of Goodwill’s life enhancing programs!

In addition, our school earned $836.25 because of your generosity! These funds will be used to support Leader in Me initiatives or updates to the playground.

Thank you!

Congratulations to our latest Student Leaders of the Month!

Please encourage your child to check the lost and found area! We had to buy a new hanging system because we had so many items!

Love the Bus Week

February 12 - 16 is 'Love the Bus Week'. Parents and students are encouraged to show appreciation to our wonderful bus drivers! Remember that Mr. Hyatt and Mrs. Dillingham are the bus drivers that work at WvES. If you have items for other bus drivers, then we will be happy to pass those along for you.
