Welcome to Colombia, where all near is surrounded by beautiful beaches, authentic culture, and architecture. Colombia is located in South America. It is in the Northwest of South America, boarded by Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, and Ecuador. Colombia's capital is Bogotá and is one of the major cities in Cololmbia. Other major cities include Santiago de Cali (Known as Cali for short) and Popyan.

Background Information

Once Colombia was controlled by another country, Spain. Colombia was able to gain independence from the Spanish on July 20th, 1981. Now Colombia is independent and not controlled by any other countries. In Colombia, the official language is Spanish.

Geographical Information

Colombia is located in Northwestern South America. It is bordered by several other countries like Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, and Panama. Colombia is also bordered by the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is filled with physical features and some of those include the Andes mountains, the Amazon river, and the Santa Marta mountains (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta).

Political and Diplomacy Information

Currently Colombia has a republic government. Their current leader is President Juan Manuel Santos (Pictured to the right). He is the 32nd president of Colombia. President Juan Manuel has been in office since 2010. Because of the government, Colombia is able to be on good terms with other countries. Colombia has not been in any recent arguments with other countries and is still importing and exporting to the same countries as before without struggle.

Economic and trade information

Colombia's current currency is the Colombian peso (Pictured to the left). Their economic systemic capitalism. Colombia is a big trade center. They import many goods like industrial equipment, transportation equipment, consumer goods, chemicals, paper products, fuels, electricity, etc. Some of their exports include petroleum, coffee, coal, apparel, bananas, cut flowers, and oil.


Colombia mainly imports their goods to the U.S. (32.7%) Venezuela (6.7%), Brazil (5.8%), Japan (5.3%), Mexico (5.1%), and Germany (4.2%). Colombia's goods that they export mainly go to Venezuela (9.4%), U.S. (44.8%), and Ecaudor (6.8%) as of 2002.

Many tourists often visit because of the beautiful beaches, authentic culture, architecture, exotic fruits, etc. Colombia is a great place for tourists and foreigners to enjoy. When visiting Colombia, it is suggested to go backpacking and sightseeing because of all the mountains and museums. In Colombia, popular places for tourists to tour around include Tayrana National Natrual Park, the Gold Museum, the Amazon rainforest, and the Andes mountains.
