Students should be working on Edmentum at least two times a week outside of school. This program is to help students bridge learning gaps in Reading and Math. Please encourage your student to do Edmentum to promote his/her academic growth!
Field Trip
Due to lack of interest we canceled the Atlanta field trip and are working on planning a day trip somewhere in the state of North Carolina. More information will be coming soon!

CLASS NEWS
ELA
In Mrs. Wease's ELA we are continuing to read Unbroken adapted for young adults. As we read, we are analyzing the character and values of Louis Zamperini. When we finish the book, we will compare and contrast Hitler’s death camps and Japanese POW camps. We will also analyze the detention centers for Japanese Americans established in the USA during World War 2.
Math
Next up we will start our unit on the Real Number System where we will explore rational and irrational numbers! Check IN #3 will be before Traditional Spring Break so we will be working hard to prepare for this test! Remember, tutoring is on Thursday until 4:30 in your math teacher's room.
The Math 1 students will finish the polynomial unit next week and then will begin the Quadratic Function unit. This unit will focus on graphing and solving quadratic equations. Math 1 students will be taking a Check In when Math 8 does.
Science
From Mrs. Stoneback: First off, I want to let you know excited I am to be teaching your child. Many of you already know me from Butner-Stem Elementary. It has only taken 20 years, but they have finally let me out of the 5th grade! Currently we are working on all things water. Freshwater as well as saltwater. This includes aquifers, water basins, watersheds, estuaries, rivers, lakes and many more places where water is found. Maybe this is the reason it keeps raining!
Ms. Holbert's students are working on the Matter unit! We will be talking about chemical reactions and chemical compounds! We will soon be learning how to balance chemical equations by incorporating math in science! Vocabulary is a huge focus and all students have access to Quizlet to study key terms with each unit we've done this year! Don't forget Study Island is another tool we use in class to further our understanding.
Social Studies
In Ms. Wease's SS class we continue to study the early history of our country. When we get back from intersession, we will be ready to learn about the American Civil War, the industrial age of America, and the reconstruction of the American South.
