A message from Food Services...
New Elementary School Food Service Policy starts January 7, 2019
Dear Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
Beginning January 7, 2019, a new policy will go into place at all Northville Public Schools elementary schools regarding the purchase of extra food items at lunch. All extra items will be cash only with the exception of double orders of main entrees (i.e. a second slice of pizza), milk and water, which will be charged to your student’s Food Service account. Double orders are $1.75 per additional entree, and $0.50 for an additional order of milk or water. Please make sure your student understands these extra food items are not free to avoid your student’s Food Service account from becoming overdrawn.
Please call Food Service at 248-344-3690 with any questions.
Sincerely,
Carrie Morfino
Director, Food Service

The Spring SEASON for our Robotics team is here.
Dear Silver Springs students (K-3rd Grade)
The Spring SEASON for our Robotic team is here. We will start in January and we are planing to join the Canton Plymouth High School EXPO beginning of May. It is the identical FALL Season "MISSION MOON" challenge. FIRST only offers one challenge per school year.
Parents, this program will be run by parents for our students There will be some challenges and problems to solve but the goal is to make this a fun, exciting, and educational experience for the upcoming 11 weeks the teams will be meeting.
FIRST requires for each FIRST LEGO Robotic Jr. team 2 parent volunteers. FIRST calls these parents coaches. We need 2 coaches per team of about 4 kids. Please consider to volunteer to coach a team. Every coach will get a TEAM Meeting guide that will explain all activities broken down by each session. We will show all materials on:
Thursday, DEC-13.
Just stop by at the Silver Springs Office. You can talk with the coaches from the Fall Season. We will set up the materials and some demonstrations. Some coaches will be there before and after their students Holiday party. Please just stop by or send us an email to answer all additional questions.
The Spring Season is for K-3rd Grade and it is called The FIRST JUNIOR LEGO LEAGUE JR. The WEDO 2.0 controller is what will be used to "program" the LEGO robot will be controlled by an app. It is based on drag and drop programming or your Just download the app ,start bluetooth and you are done. Parents don't need any kind of programing skills to be able to volunteer. Just the fun to let kids playing with LEGOs and to solve their own challenge.
We will meet Tuesdays at 6 -7pm at Silver Springs. the first meeting is January-15. There will be no Robotic meeting during Spring break and Teacher development day.
The costs for this program is $86. This includes the use of the LEGOs and the WEDO 2.0 controller, the registration fees for FIRST, and some basic other materials we will need to complete the season.

Invest In Your Child Update
The SS PTA would like to thank all the families who recently donated to our main fundraiser. In the past month or so, we have received around $850 in donations. These donations bring us closer to our budgeted goal of $10,000. We hope to still reach our goal. The more we raise, the more we can do for our students and school. It is swimmingly wonderful to see our SS SCHOOL of fish around our display case in the lobby. It is never too late to make a donation to IIYC. The SS PTA looks forward to many fun community events and activities in 2019!
Thank you for helping make a difference in your child’s school!

7-Habits Take Home Activity for December
This month’s Habit: Habit 2 Begin With the End in Mind
Activity: Gantt Chart
Due Date: December 21st
Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind- "I have a plan"
What this means: Have a mission, a clear sense of where you want to go. Think about the end first- how are you going to get there?
“I plan ahead and set goals.”
“I do things that have meaning and make a difference”
“I am important part of my classroom.”
“I look for ways to be a good citizen.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Write down your goals. It is said that "A goal not written is only a wish.”
2. Lay out your clothes for tomorrow the night before.
3. Write down 3 goals you want to accomplish.
Great Books for Habit #2 - Begin With the End in Mind
- The BFG by Roald Dahl
- When I Grow Up by Sean Covey
- Click Clack Moo Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
- Little Bunny on the Move by Peter McCarty
- The School Story by Andrew Clements
