HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

Thank You Teachers!

Our teachers give so much to our students, community, and their own families. I certainly appreciate everything they do to help our students succeed, especially developing an entire new virtual school program on the fly with no notice or training. They have learned how to do Zoom meetings, Google Classroom, and utilize Class DoJo to keep learning going. Teachers are making phone and video calls to connect with individual parents and students to assist them as best as they can from a safe social distance. Teachers are doing all of these things while taking care of their own families at home. Teachers are the superheroes of schools!

Please take time this week to send a note, message, or short video message to your student's teachers and let them know how much you and your student miss them and appreciate what they do. I know that they will certainly appreciate hearing how what they do affects all of you.

I'd also like to express my appreciation to our parent teachers at home who are continuing to keep their students engaged and learning while away from school. You are your child's first and most important teachers!

Sincerely,

Marci Galinowski, Principal

E-LEARNING INFORMATION

The school-wide grade level lesson plans for each week will be emailed on Mondays

Students will have five days to complete each set of lesson plans. This allows for families, especially those with multiple children sharing a device, ample time to complete assignments online and contact teachers and teacher assistance as needed. Below is a sample weekly at home e-learning schedule.

STUDENT WORK PACKETS

If your student is completing paper packet work, and you are able, please send photos or scanned copies of completed to work to your student's teacher. If you are unable to send copies of completed packets electronically to your child's teacher. Please hold on to the packet material until it is safe for us to collect them at the school. Parents will be informed via school messenger any plans for packet collection.

ALL WORK MUST BE LABELED WITH YOUR STUDENT'S NAME AND TEACHER.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE

May is National Asthma and Allergy awareness month. Since its peak season, I thought it would be helpful to recognize the causes and how to best prevent and treat attacks.

If you suffer from allergies, you know the symptoms: coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, and scratchy throat. Some of the common allergens and irritants found in and around the home are pollen, dust mites, mold, insect droppings, pet dander, and secondhand smoke. Exposure to these allergens can even bring about a serious asthma attack. During an attack, the airways become narrow and make it very difficult to breathe.

Asthma triggers also include: respiratory infections, pollen (trees, grasses, weeds) air pollution, food, allergies, cleaning products, perfumes, exercise, and cold air exposure. Common asthma symptoms include wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma cannot be cured but it can be controlled. If your child suffers from severe allergies or asthma, make sure teachers, coaches, and the school nurse are aware so they can provide the necessary help.

Sincerely,
